First, the designer of 1829 is not the designer of 1830, is not the
designer of 1835, and is not the designer of 1856 or 1870. Francis
Tresham (the designer of 1829) collaborated on the design of 1835
(primary designer, a German, forget his name though, Michael
something). Don't know the designer of 1830, but presumably an
    American.
So in the 1830 rules, where it says "DESIGN: Francis Tresham", that is a >> lie?
No. Paul is just mistaken. 1830 _WAS_ primarily designed by Francis
Tresham by request from Avalon Hill. Bruce Shelly was the AH designer that worked with him on it (suggestions, review, playtest coord), but Francis did
the bulk of the real work.
It's in black & white in "A Very Good Year, Development Notes for 1830" by Bruce Shelly, AH General, page 8, Vol 23, Num 6.
PS: Bruce Shelly later teamed up with Sid Meier at Microprose to produce Railroad Tycoon. This sort of makes him sort of a railroad game god in my book. ;-)
Thanks very much for the correction. I DID say that I didn't know who had, and I must admit, that because 1830 is so different from 1829, that I assumed Francis Tresham wasn't involved in it's design. I stand corrected. Again, I'm not sure whether Bruce Shelley is a US or Canadian citizen (or even something else). Point is, the games are different, each in their own way. They are all enjoyable. Have fun!
