Just a reminder that the FIDE Candidates Tournament will be held in

That would be april 3-23 otherwise might be correct.
I could be wrong but believe this is the first time the Candidates has
been held in North America.

Well yes and no - in 1971 the Candidates was on a match format with Fischer-Taimanov in Vancouver, BC and Fischer-Larsen in Denver, CO.
Until the present era I >believe< the only times the actual World
Championship match was held in North America (1st half NYC, 2nd half
Montreal) were Lasker-Zukertort 1894 and Lasker-Marshall (1907 -
played in several US cities) while Capa beat Lasker in Havana 1921.
As a member of the Chess Federation of Canada national executive I can
tell you that there was some "excitement" (of a bad sort) with
registrations and e-mails flying here there and everywhere which have
now been resolved and everything is good to go.
What makes this one interesting is that it's the first time the Mens'
and Womens' Candidate events have been held concurrently. The pictures
I've seen suggest they'll be played in the same room concurrently
which shouldn't be an issue since there are 16 players (plus
officials) in each event.
(I recently purchased Keres' book on the 1948 Match-Tournament and am
having a wonderful time on the games - highly recommended though being
a hardcover, a bit pricey)
