These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2024-10-28,
and should be interpreted accordingly.
On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers in a single followup to the newsgroup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days.
All questions were written by members of What She Said, and are
used here by permission, but have been reformatted and may have
been retyped and/or edited by me. The posting and tabulation of
current-events questions is independent of the concurrent posting
of other rounds. For further information please see my 2024-08-30
companion posting on "Questions from the Canadian Inquisition

* Game 7, Round 8 - Literature - Stephen King
Another Hallow-tastic round: 10 questions about one of our most
successful horror writers and the books he horror-fies.
1. King's novella "Rage" is now permanently out of print at King's
own request because of the subject material. What is "Rage"
about?
2. "Different Seasons" is a collection of four novellas by King.
Three of them have been made into movies; two of those received
Oscar nominations. Name *any one* of the four novellas.
3. King directed one movie in 1984, which both he and movie critics
agree to be a colossal failure: it's about cars becoming
sentient and trying to destroy humanity. Name *either* the
movie or the original short story.
4. What is the series title for King's 8-book Western-fantasy-horror
cycle, which begins and ends with the line "The man in black
fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed"?
5. For our last 6 questions we're going to describe the plot of
a Stephen King book, and you give us the title. First off:
an obsessive fan kidnaps and tortures her favorite author.
6. A plague kills 99% of humanity, and the survivors must pick
sides in a battle between good and evil.
7. A mother and child are trapped within their car by a rabid dog
and are unable to escape.
8. Vampires annihilate a small town in Maine.
9. A senior citizen confesses to the murder of her abusive husband
when she is suspected of killing her employer.
10. A time traveler attempts to prevent the assassination of John
F. Kennedy.
