• QFTCIWSS24 Game 2, Rounds 7-8: Wilson and Johnson

From Mark Brader@21:1/5 to All on Fri Mar 28 05:17:26 2025
These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2024-09-16,
    and should be interpreted accordingly.

On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers in a single followup to the newsgroup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days.

All questions were written by members of What She Said, and are
used here by permission, but have been reformatted and may have
been retyped and/or edited by me. The posting and tabulation of
current-events questions is independent of the concurrent posting
of other rounds. For further information please see my 2024-08-30
companion posting on "Questions from the Canadian Inquisition
    (QFTCI*)".

    * Game 2, Round 7 - Canadiana Literature - Eric Wilson

A couple of seasons ago we had a round that was all YA and sadly,
no Eric Wilson books were included, so we've given you all the
Eric Wilson round you didn't know you wanted as we celebrate one of
Canada's most successful young-adult writers and the adventures of
young crimefighting siblings Tom and Liz Austen.

In each case please give the *title* of the book we describe.
You may find this 2-page handout helpful:

    http://www.vex.net/~msb/tmp/qftci/2:7/eric.pdf

    1. Liz is plunged into a deadly world of biker gangs, kidnapping and
international smuggling -- and it all starts in rural
    Saskatchewan.

    2. Was it really the butler who did it? Or maybe it was the
snoopy maid? Tom and Liz try to solve a mysterious disappearance
and find a lost treasure in a capital city.

    3. A woman's scream hurls Tom into the middle of a whodunnit
mystery. Trapped with no way out, Tom must confront the culprit
and save the day before arriving at the final stop.

    4. Liz visits British Columbia for her best friend's wedding and
quickly becomes embroiled not only in her first romance, but
in the mysterious disappearance of a priceless item from the
    stately Thirteen Oaks mansion.

    5. Within the walls of a gloomy estate known as Blackwater, Liz
discovers the strange world of Baron Nicolai Zaba, a man who
lives in constant fear. What is the secret of the ancient
chapel's underground vault? Why are the words In Evil Memory
    scrawled on a wall?

    6. While spending the summer down east, Liz and her friends see some
eerie things. The adventure takes them from an ancient cemetery
through a haunted church, and into a deserted lighthouse in
    this legendary location.

    7. During a cold Winnipeg winter, Tom unravels a web of secrets.
In his hometown, he explores an abandoned house, discovers the
mystery of "the Golden Child", and protects one of his friends
    from danger.

    8. An investigation into the kidnapping of his schoolmate leads
Tom to a seedy cafe in Manitoba and an unexpected encounter
with a desperate criminal. After getting one step too close
to the kidnappers, Tom is taken prisoner and needs all of his
    wits to survive.

    9. When Liz travels east and lands a role in a summer production
of Annie, she learns that an upcoming vote on the town's future
may ruin its charm and tradition. Liz and her friend Makiko
find themselves investigating an old legend, a series of arsons
and a mysterious mansion on an island where time has stood still.

    10. A fire burning on the sea... icy fingers in the night... a
dog that suddenly won't go near its master's bedroom... these
are the baffling ingredients of the spine-chilling mystery
that begins when Professor Zinck invites Tom and his sister
    Liz to visit.

    * Game 2, Round 8 - Entertainment - The Answer is Johnson!

Answering "Johnson" for this round won't help you at all, because
this round is all about people whose last name is always Johnson!
Thus we will need both first and last names for every answer this
round. (One of them has sometimes used a stage name not including
"Johnson"; we still need that one's actual name.)

For questions #1-#8, name the actor or actress.

    Tooth Fairy".
