* Game 2, Round 4 - History - US Civil War Generals
The generals of the American Civil War -- on both sides -- are a
storied and interesting collection. We've given you a handout to
serve as a visual aid:
http://www.vex.net/~msb/tmp/qftci/2:4/gen.pdf
I've rearranged the hand in order of the handout, and there were
no decoys, so the question numbers are the same numbers you see
on the handout. In each case you will be given some information
and must name the general shown.
1. This assistant adjutant general for the Union, but was not
actually an American; he was French, and more specifically the
grandson of the second-last monarch of France, with whom he
shared a name. Just give the shared name.
2. He was the first full general of the United States, and after
successfully leading the Vicksburg campaign to give the Union
full control of the Mississippi, assumed command of the Union
forces in 1964.
3. He commanded the Union Army of the Potomac from 1863 to 1865,
and was the victorious commander at Gettysburg. Multiple US
army forts are named for him, including ones in Maryland and
Kansas, as well as a county in South Dakota.
4. This Confederate general was considered by many to be the most
clever tactician in the war and arguably in American history.
Unfortunately, his skill at commanding troops did not prevent
him from being accidentally shot by them and dying after an
emergency amputation in 1863. He earned his famous nickname
at the First Battle of Bull Run.
5. A Confederate lieutenant general, considered a skilled
commander, he was better known for his brutal tactics, which
included a massacre of surrendered black troops at Fort Pillow.
He was also the first Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan.
6. He led the Confederacy's most powerful army, the Army of Northern
Virginia, from 1862 until its surrender in 1865.
7. The Union's military commander from November of 1861 to March
of 1862, when he was removed from command for repeatedly failing
to contain Robert E. Lee's forces. He ran against Abraham
Lincoln in 1864 as the Democratic candidate for President,
but lost decisively when the Union Army voted overwhelmingly
for Lincoln.
8. He was a Union general with a spotty track record, probably best
remembered for allegedly providing a slang term for prostitutes,
although probably it predates him anyway. In any case, this
general was absolutely known for his wild partying.
10. He was a Union general, considered by military historians to
be the "first modern general" for his understanding of logistics
and the implications of modern weaponry on armed combat. He is
famous for the burning of Atlanta and his "march to the sea".
The primary American battle tank of World War II was named
for him.
* Game 2, Round 6 - Sports - Professional Wrestling
If you say it isn't a sport, you're wrong and your team loses all of
its points!
3. The world's oldest professional wrestling company in continuous
operation -- since 1933 -- has the initials CMLL. In what
country does it operate? *Hint*: Consider the initials.
5. The longest professional wrestling title reign in history
lasted from 1963 to 1971 -- 2,803 days. Name the Italian-born
professional wrestler, known as "the Living Legend", who held
the title for that reign.
6. The oldest professional wrestler to compete is Mae Young,
who wrestled her final match in 2010. Within 2 years, how old
was she then? *Hint*: She died at the age of 90.
10. After a final run in <answer 2> that left fans enthralled
with a wrestler still being willing and able to take
death-defying leaps at the age of 64, this wrestler wrestled his
last match in February of this year, taking out Matt Jackson with
his patented Scorpion Death Drop. He is also, surprisingly,
friends with the famous musician whose stage name be shares.

1. You probably know about WWE, the largest professional wrestling

White's mixed-martial-arts promotion UFC to form a new sports
entertainment corporation. What is the name of that corporation?
*Hint*: it's the same as its stock ticker symbol.

2. The second-largest professional wrestling company in the world
by revenue is WWE's primary competitor in the US and Canada,
a company which was formed in 2019 by Tony Khan of the Khan
family, which also owns the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars and the
Premier League's Fulham FC. It has sold out Wembley Stadium
two years in a row. What's the name (or abbreviation) of this
wrestling company?

country does it operate? *Hint*: Consider the initials.
4. Probably the most popular single wrestling match of the year,
as a tradition, is a match held in January by WWE. In this
match, 30 participants enter the ring at 90-second intervals,
and you are eliminated if you are thrown out of the ring over
the top ropes and hit the floor. The match format has been
copied by other companies, but WWE's match -- held annually
since 1988 - is easily the most popular. What is it called?

8. You are a professional wrestler. You put your opponent in a
front facelock (with their head under your arm), and with
your other arm you lift them up and then fall backwards,
so they flip forward onto the mat and land on their back.
What wrestling move have you just performed?
9. WWE's current world champion, who is selling more tickets than
any wrestler has sold in years, has called himself the
"grandson of a plumber" and "the American nightmare", and is
the second-born son of a legendary wrestling champion of the
1970s and '80s. Give his first and last name.
