• TRIP REPORT TO CANTERBURY PARK IN MINNESOTA

From Mossingen@21:1/5 to All on Fri Jan 5 10:56:50 2024
I went to visit my kids over the holiday in Minneapolis. During my visit I stopped to play poker at Canterbury Park, which is a little casino with
poker tables inside a race track.

The place is like going back in time because there were no no-limit games,
only limit Hold'em (mainly 8-16, with single tables of 20-40 and 40-80) and spread limit (2-100). It has been years since I played limit hold'em and
even longer since I played spread limit. I played mostly spread limit on
    this trip.

The place had a grungy feel to it, reminded me of Commerce. Kinda grungy, shady guys playing and standing around, just had that worn feel and I didn't trust the games to play in the 20-40 or the 40-80 especially.

Nothing really notable about the sessions, other than one time I got AK on
the button three times in one orbit and lost them all to trash hands in the blinds. That was kinda weird, including once when an ace hit the flop and I lost to A-x when the big blind hit two pair.

I didn't get any food there, but they did have a grill/restaurant that
looked pretty good. Oddly, when I was there the weather wasn't that bad, in fact it was a little bit warmer there than it was here in Oklahoma.
Overall, I liked Minneapolis/St. Paul. One night I went to a bar downtown where my son hangs out and it had a cool vibe that reminded me a lot of
Denver. Of course, the place is nuttily progressive and that seeps in, but
the people are overall friendly. When I was driving one time I was scanning radio channels and heard the Black Information Network. I listened to that
for a long time, fascinated by it. It was presented as a news station, but primarily reported crimes they always listed the races of the persons
involved and most stories involved whites committing crimes against blacks.
All stories were slanted from the black perspective. I suppose one could
say that whites have been doing this longer, so tit for tat, but still I couldn't help but feeling that racial propaganda like this is not helpful to anyone.

Also, there is a large population of Somalis in the area which is noticeable
at places like Wal-Mart, which is something of which I was unaware. I don't know why Somalis would focus on that city but apparently they do.

Finally, I needed some new sunglasses and want to see the Mall of America.
I went there with my son, and what monstrosity that place is. It's kinda
like going to Vegas for the first time and seeing for yourself the scale of
the casinos. The mall is just like a small city, with a little amusement
park in the middle and endless stores. I'm glad I went to see it, but there
is definitely no reason to go back there. The crowds and bustle are unbearable.

Interesting. Keep returning for a while.

Most malls down here are actually just disappearing.

Ah, the time they are a changing.
