In the early 1980's, starting with my full-time employment in 1984, we were getting annual raise pools of 9% or more, which basically just covered inflation. When I bought my house in late 1983, 30-year fixed rate mortgages were at 13.5%, ARMs at 11.75%. At that point, Carter had been out of office for 30 months.
