Other than breaking tie votes in the Senate, I'm not sure a Vice President has any other official duties.

None. Except to sit by the phone, awaiting the Big Call. How
could even a baboon be incapable of that? What exactly is
    a "capable" VP?

What irks me, is the media's representations,
e.g. "he reports to the Prez", "the #2 guy", "rebuked by his boss".
All nonsense. Constitutionally, he's independent, he can tell
    "the boss" to cram it.

Furthermore, there's no constitutional requirement for Congress
to spend a dime on him. No office, no jet, not even salary.
What for? Of course, any excuse is a good excuse to bleed the
taxpayers, and glorify the lords of the State.

And finally, you hear "Biden tapped Harris for the job." uh, what
happened to conventions, don't they get to vote? haha, nowadays,
they're a studio audience. (see also the State of the Empire speech)

Amendment #28: the office of the VP is hereby abolished.

I'd be very ok with a similar amendment, but we might also have to re-jigger how a transition might be done if the new #2 is of a different party....would we really want to stick a new President with an entire cast of people from the other party? I'd
also like to get rid the entire order of succession. One needs only see the current line up to see how ridiculous it'd be. I'd rather have experienced elected officials take over....Speaker of the House, sure....and if that option is out, how about a
    new election amongst willing governors?
