• Opinion on the construction of Vegas/city planners

From jack roth@21:1/5 to All on Wed May 17 12:34:29 2023
WTF would you build Vegas/Strip/Railroad to pass through the hottest part of the vegas valley that also happens to flood in winter?

Also, Who the fuck is in charge of protecting the skyline in Vegas? Every new casino blocks everyone's view of the other casinos. Rather than marvel at the Oasis of Casino splendor, it now feels like being cooped up in downtown Manhattan hell.

Also Also, Precisely nobody wants or needs the FountaineBlue. It's in a shit spot on the strip, it's a monolithic eyesore, and it's going to look pretty stupid going out of business again when this economy falters later this year.

The original settlement here was because the water in the bottom of the valley provided forage for livestock. Some translate Las Vegas as Spanish for 'the meadows'. More accurately 'fertile and grassy valley'. Things developed from there. That was where
the road network was. Anyone who built a casino, even a little one, on the edges of the valley would have gone bankrupt in short order.

Development since then has been a continuing patchwork of fits and starts. A book could be written about the construction and reconstruction evolution of just Caesars Palace.

As for flooding in the winter- the last time that happened was 2007 (also the last heavy rains) and there have been sewer upgrades since then. But whether the upgrades could handle the new climate change-induced rains like they have had in California and
    Florida is an open question.

The back vehicle entrance to Harrahs will probably still flood if they haven't made a major improvement in their drainage. It's a good question why they would put the entrance at a dip in the ground.

I don't agree with your characterization of the views on the Strip. If there is any blocking of the view it's because of the bend in the Strip at Caesars.

The Fontainebleau location was a seedy section of the Strip but it and the new Resorts World nearby will be what changes that. And Fontainebleau isn't an eyesore anymore. They've put in almost all the glass now and you don't see the under-construction
appearance until you get up close.

The 'flooding' story is exaggerated. I was in San Francisco during the '89 quake. Relatives and friends were calling to see if I was still alive. They thought the whole Bay Area sank to the middle of the Earth.

I was waiting for you to point out the back parking lot at the Imperial Palace, where I used to play poker. Although I believe it might be the LINK. Or you might have covered it above, they keep playing musical chairs with casinos now.

Or perhaps this is the only way jack froth could keep his 'threat' of "dragging us, kicking and screaming into talking about poker." So far I don't see any drag marks...

Those videos are from the back of Harrah's. Remember above where I said, 'The back vehicle entrance to Harrahs will probably still flood if they haven't made a major improvement in their drainage. It's a good question why they would put the entrance
at a dip in the ground.' I guess you don't.

The vehicle entrance to Harrah's from The Strip drops about 12', or more, into a tunnel that goes to the back roundabout entrance. Any water on the Strip shoots to the back entrance where there is a dip compared to the surrounding surface and no
drainage. Even small amounts of rain cause flooding in that very localized area including The Linq and the High Roller which are right there.

I forgot about Planet Hollywood. Typical crap quality MGM casino.

'Water also flowed through a parking structure flood channel near The Linq hotel and High Roller observation wheel, and social media posts showed water leaking from the ceiling onto gambling tables at the Planet Hollywood resort.'

The last time I was at the Rio was in 2011 or 12. Oddly enough it was to meet Ramashiva Coleman for dinner. At that time the waitresses were top-notch. For all I know, they are all Trannies now.

I imagine it never crosses the minds of tourists that the bordellos in Nevada generally stay on good terms with the locals. In addition to the tax revenue generated, in some of the towns where there are several bordellos, like Pahrump, the girls make
cash contributions directly to town and community events. And there's a positive aspect for someone, like the girl at 31:50 with the prosthetic leg, to be able to make more money than she might be able to otherwise.

Those videos are from the back of Harrah's. Remember above where I said, 'The back vehicle entrance to Harrahs will probably still flood if they haven't made a major improvement in their drainage. It's a good question why they would put
the entrance at a dip in the ground.' I guess you don't.

The vehicle entrance to Harrah's from The Strip drops about 12', or more, into a tunnel that goes to the back roundabout entrance. Any water on the Strip shoots to the back entrance where there is a dip compared to the surrounding surface
and no drainage. Even small amounts of rain cause flooding in that very localized area including The Linq and the High Roller which are right there.

I forgot about Planet Hollywood. Typical crap quality MGM casino.

~ It'd probably be legal in every county if there were any generational people actually from Nevada in the state legislature.

Won't happen. The casino industry doesn't want more competition for tourist dollars. They'd probably have the pols shut down the strip clubs if they could get away with it. Only a couple of places can have bottomless dancers because they were in business
    before the prohibition.

And what that woman said about the casinos reserving chairs at the bars for hookers is BS. I've seen hookers arrested for soliciting in casinos a couple of times and a couple of other times escorted out on suspicion. A doorman isn't going to risk his job
    by pandering, either.

Oh I'd like to see evidence of their cash contributions to town and community events. What bullshit. And, their money gets chopped up so many ways, they aren't making what you'd think. And, sure they get along with locals in Pahrump...look at all the

Jesus. Another group of “I think I Know-it-alls” puking up nothing but guesses and wishes.

I worked in a Vegas casino, as did a relative of mine (not Made). I had juice. I’d connections with law enforcement. (Later, s a Sheriff's Deputy, I was also ‘in the know’ of one of the ‘outer county’ whore houses ‘servicing’ California’s
Inyo County. Yea, they all have police cards, like Vegas dealers, and medical cards).

The strip hotels (and Laughlin) want to keep their guests in-house and happy. And they know some guests expect a few classy ‘stag’ women when they enter the hotel bar or casion, and not have to go look at another bar down the street. The ‘Managers
control the bars and casino floors. They know and control what (class of) women ‘work’ the bars and casino floors. They have 'understandings' with them. (As well as the occasional card mechanics). The ‘working women’ understand this
relationship, as do the women that don’t work there and are smart enough not to try. They walk the streets and work the smaller bars.

I now return you to your pretend Hooker & Whore experts…..

Oh, OK, Jerry the Expert. I must have imagined seeing those two hookers arrested at two different casinos and seeing two different hookers being shown the door at yet two other casinos. Hookers sit at the bars but they do that on their own. They aren't
hard to spot but the house doesn't attempt to bust them until they start looking like regulars. You can see a lot of them at Treasure Island and most of them there don't look like they have much appreciation for bathing. They're there because TI is
    generally poorly managed.

'Classy stag women' is laughable. They can generally be spotted a mile away due to their general tawdriness and even the few that approach physical attractiveness have a certain repulsiveness about them. That's probably due to their personality and drug
    problems.

I did run into one who was attractive. She had flown in less than an an hour before, her only luggage was a big purse/carry bag, she made some brief small talk and right away asked what conventions were in town. I'm assuming she was a hooker; she didn't
make the pitch. She probably flew in for a pre-arranged assignment and intended to knock down some extras if she could. I know some of the dancers at the strip clubs hook on the side. In both of these cases you can expect to pay plenty.

And the casinos have 'understandings' with 'card mechanics'? LOL.

The prohibition against bottomless stripping. There are 3 or 4 clubs I know of in the Las Vegas area that are actually, really 'fully nude'. But I may have confused my informal count by requiring that alcohol be served, also. I don't patronize strip
clubs but I used to many years ago in South Florida. They are just about all 100% nude there. But the idea of paying maybe $9-$10 for an 8 oz. Pepsi while watching strippers seems pretty odd to me.

In Vegas, at Spearmint Rhino and Sapphires, two of the biggest, the bottoms stay on. Expect a $135+ cover charge. If a cab driver delivers you there he/she gets comped twice+ the cab fare. They will present a copy of the receipt to the staff and get paid
in cash. So tell the driver when you get in that you won't be paying any fare. No need to wait for the club to send a limo.

    Those clubs are
not (I don't think) houses of prostitution ... but there are some of

~ Oh I'd like to see evidence of their cash contributions to town and community events. What bullshit.

Except that they do in some towns. You are unique in that not having any idea what you're talking about regarding a subject doesn't stop you from thinking you know everything there is to know about it.

~ And, their money gets chopped up so many ways, they aren't making what you'd think.

Oh, OK. You must be married to one.

~ And, sure they get along with locals in Pahrump...look at all the retired cops and military living there. Probably a revolving door there and everyone on a first name basis.
