• Colombo

Colombo was a really good show. The scripts were
ingenious, always the perfect murder... with one hitch.
Which Colombo sunk his teeth into, obsessively.
And he was an appealing character.

Problem is, the show was incredulous. With two
minutes left, the perp always caved.... "You're too
    smart, lieutenant, you caught me!"

The perps were invariably classy high IQ types. They
knew nothing about their rights, lawyers, reasonable
    doubt?

    That always bugged me -

I was at a Lakers game once and getting a beer at half time, turned around and the man standing behind me was Falk.

Good thing he was behind you. It's so annoying when he's in front of you in line.

That's one of the benefits of living in El Lay.
Was he wearing a rumpled trench coat?

Yea, I agree. What bugs me the number of similar crimes that are never brought to justice. Like the above; simply STFU. Cops (detectives) and prosecutors often just have to give up. They know there’s not enough evidence – or they couldn’t convince
    a jury - to get a conviction.

Look at Trump. The Justice Department has enough for numerous inditment, but what chance of getting a conviction? Trump’s old lawyer Michael Cohen went to prison on evidence that has Donald Trump’s own voice showing he’s a conspirator, yet no Trump
indictment. And the other one; Trump’s own voice, “I just need to find 11,780 votes.”

Our secretary at work was murdered by her husband. The investigation detective said he hasn’t enough proof so it would be his word against his. He apologized for not being able to arrest him. He wouldn’t say, “You’re too smart, lieutenant.”
    That’s just TV. Case closed..

If they caved in the first 2 minutes it wouldn't be much of a show.... which is to say it's a fucking network television show. Verisimilitude is not the primary goal. I liked Falk in a few things. The "serpentine" bit from the In Laws is just classic.
Also, amusingly referenced in Generation Kill. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2_w-QCWpS0

I will never forget an episode I watched back in the day. Got the guy by saying his hair apt was the same day and right around the corner or he missed his hair apt or something. He said to the perp "you look like a man who NEVER misses a hair apt" or
something to that effect, back then I was lucky to have enough money to get a cut a year so it always amazed me the dude caved on something like that.
