Yep, the fissures and broken surface just allow more goodneess from all
    the slathering and drizzling.

In a more recent thread, this thread and David's jalapeno chips
"inspired" me to make this. My wife says it's good but different. It's
not hot to eat. I used a half-cup of David's chips in the batter.
I'm calling it Jolly cornbread, regardless of how it tastes. ;)
Ignore the beer. That was a sloppy oversight. :(

You could also not ignore the beer and add a can to some self rising flour. If you want, you could also ignore the egg, milk, and cornmeal. You could add some cornmeal if you want to call it cornbread but I'd call it "beer bread." Add a little sugar and salt to smooth out the taste. Jalapenos and cheese are always a
    good choice in beer bread.

Thanks for the birthday wish! You know, you could just buy some jarred
sliced jalapeno peppers and add them to the cornbread batter. It's a
thing. :) Baking jalapenos in the batter takes away most of what heat
    they might have.

A (sadly) long defunct restaurant used to serve jalapeno cornbread
muffins in their assorted bread basket before the meal. They were fine
but I much preferred the squares of pumpkin bread. I really need to
find a recipe for pumpkin batter bread. Easy enough to look up. I
always have a can of canned pumpkin (Sheldon would scream "it's not
    pumpkin!") in the pantry.

It sure did set him off. Or as they say these days "triggered" him. He
never understood there are different types of pumpkins. Sugar pumpkins
are used for cooking and baking pies. Or making soup. Not the same
thing as the pumpkins one carves for Halloween. I just looked at the
can of pumpkin puree I have in the pantry. Libby's is the brand.
    Ingredients: pumpkin. Oh well. :)
