What will be spread out on your table tonight for
dinner? Casserole, stew, something grilled or
    fried, takeout?

Tonight's fare at Joan's Joint is going to be
homemade tomato soup. I've found several
recipes for this and all are pretty much the
same thing so I thought I'd give it a try.
As much as I've always loved a bowl of hot
    tomato soup I just can't stomach Campbell's
    version any longer.

A grilled sandwich might be an accompaniment,
    too.

We had corned beef, tiny potatoes cooked in butter and avocado oil, and
    baby peas.

I stopped off at the Shell gas station where they make really great
fried chicken. It's injected with hot sauce, battered and fried; it's
really crispy and delicious. Unfortunately, by the time I got there
they were out of fried chicken.

So tonight, probably just a couple of scrambled eggs. I do have some
brie and spinach to add. A piece of buttered toast and a glass of milk.

    The 13 minute dinner.
I went to Publix and they had stuffed potato skins in the prepared food
case. Four in a package but two is a decent serving size. They give instructions for both oven and air fryer.

Two pieces of the Just Barely chicken breasts takes 13 minutes in the
air fryer. When the timer got down to 6 minutes, I added the potato
skins. While that was going on, I made a salad.

Not gourmet fare, but decent, easy and fast. I'm thinking of staring a
new TV series and I'll pitch my idea to Food Network. I'll call it:
Easy Meals for Lazy Old People.

I was inspired after talking to my friend in PA last Friday. She is an excellent cook and has made many great dinners over the years. We were chatting and she mentioned for dinner she had a bowl of cereal.
Coincidentally, that same evening I had crackers and cheese.

Most times when I cook a real meal, I make enough for a couple of
nights. I try to break it up every other night. I sometimes buy a
package of green beans that you nuke for 5 minutes. Easily enough for a
few portions. One portion though, is cut up into small pieces and added
to salad. To dress it up a bit more, I'll cut some grapes in haf and
    add them too.

Lunch was Turkish kofte, bulgur pilaf, and green beans. We went
out to lunch with an old co-worker of my husband's.

Dinner was a salad with hard-boiled eggs on it.

My sister-in-law came over with her cousin, who is a pretty wild woman.
She's into skate boarding and whose business takes her to China several
times a year. She's a woman that refuses to act her age. She said she
could do a handstand on a board. That would be quite a sight. We took
her out to a restaurant in our little town.
The place is famous for its prime rib so I got that. My granddaughter's
baby daddy manages the place. He told me their method for roasting their
giant roasts but I forgot it all. He wasn't working that night but
someone told him that his daughter came in so we got a 50% off deal.
That was a pretty good break for us.

    From TRUTH SOCIAL:

“Wow! Fake News MSNBC has REALLY BAD RATINGS,” the president wrote late Tuesday on Truth Social.

“Comcast, which also has the ailing network known as NBC, is trying to
stay away from lawsuits by disassociating NBC from MSNBC, but it won’t

The network’s primetime ratings have dropped 57% since the 2024
election, averaging 660,000 viewers compared to December 2023’s 1.3
million, according to the latest ratings...

The language or the people? The have a reputation for having a martial
society and being aggressive. So do many others. The English had an
empire that spanned the globe. The Scandinavians are usually considered
peace loving, but the English are mostly descendants of Danes and
Vikings. Spanish is one of the romance languages but the Spanish were
pretty brutal in the empire building. More recently we have seen a lot
of violence and harsh language from China, Japan and Korea.

"Loud Bang And A Giant Fireball’ United Flight Returns To Denver After
Rabbit Strike Ignites Engine During Takeoff

    View from the Wing
by Gary Leff on April 16, 2025

United Airlines flight 2325 suffered an unusual wildlife strike on
Sunday shortly after the Boeing 737-800 departed from Denver. The plane,
which was carrying 153 passengers and six crew, hit a rabbit...

The Edmonton, Alberta-bound flight took off from runway 34L and the
airline reported a possible rabbit strike to the plane’s right-hand
CFM56 engine. Passengers heard a loud explosion followed by significant vibrations. Large flames were seen shooting from the right engine,
causing panic inside the cabin. One witness explains:

'There was a loud bang and a significant vibration in the plane. We
proceeded to still climb. Every few moments, there was a backfire coming
from the engine, a giant fireball behind it. Everybody in the plane then started to panic..."

and they leave quickly and never come back. .

Without taking anything away from the horrors the Germans committed in
the 30s and 40s, I think that, these days, Germany's one of the more civilised countries.

Unfortunately, the extreme right party is making alarming inroads there.

More than in other places. Things have been swinging one way for many
years and now things are swinging back. It is unfortunate that things
swing to extremes rather than sticking closer to the middle where people
    may have some common ground.

But that's the case in many European countries. In the Netherlands,
they're in government (with 3 other parties). I guess that, in
Germany, their growing popularity is extra ominous.

In which "extreme" direction did things swing first? Just because you

Its sounds are harsh on the ears. The good news is that a harsh language

Sure. Some of them are smart. There are lots of them setting up

I can't argue that Trump has some mental and personality disorder

BTW.... what happened to his ear? That right ear was supposed to have
been hit by a bullet from a rifle. It didn't bleed much at the time and
recent pictures of him seem not to show any signs of a recent bullet
wound. There was never even much bruising. Heck, when I got shot the

each puncture was surrounded by dark bruises about 3-4" across.

I agree that Americans need to get themselves smarter. In Asia and
America, Asian kids are hassled to become doctors or lawyers or marry
rich. Those kids grow up with a heavy burden to bear. Most American kids
aren't hassled to be anything. Da kids just wanna have fun.

If you're a guy like me, you assume that the event was staged. It's just another DJT scam. Anybody with half a brain could see through that. This

I understand there is a lot of pressure on them to get ahead. My
cardiologist is Chinese. Her father's obituary was in the paper a few
months ago. He was a doctor and her brother is a doctor.

It would not surprise me at all if it was all staged. Apparently the
shooter was plainly visible and no one intervened until he fired a
couple shots into the crowd close enough to Trump to make it look like
he was the target. Then the shooter got shot, and dead men tell no tales.

I can't argue that Trump has some mental and personality disorder
issues. He is a sick and disgusting individual who lives to screw
other people. That is obvious to most people outside of the US and to
a minority of Americans.  A lot of Americans, too many Americans,
voted for the moron, so you guys need to step up and letting that

I'm surprised that the MAGAlouts here don't sign off with a "Sieg heil".

Speaking of sniffing canisters, I have a follow-up to
my report on Tonka beans, but I lost the original post
so I will put it here.

After reading on the web, I decided not to perform an
oil extraction with ethanol despite that it is supposed to
very easy and efficient. But the resulting extract would
have enough toxin to kill someone if a vagrant / adolescent
visitor wanted some hooch real bad. I used a box-cutter to
to cut a few beans into 2 mm slices and loaded them into
one of these mills that delivers a dozen or so mg per stroke:

    https://www.stokesstores.com/en/remy-olivier-salt-or-pepper-mill-6.html

Those Tonka beans really do not need much more. I've been
putting them into everything. So much that I thought I was
skewing my odour receptors. I went into a hardware store
and as soon as I got inside, I smelled Tonka expremely strong
and followed it to what looked like a pile of vomit from
someone who had eaten different colours of sponge rubber.

So I asked what it was, and the store manager said it
was bear bait. It smelled so good, I almost bought some
but my wife was with me so I decided maybe next time.

Shot in the ear? Isn't that the question.... whether or not he was
shot? For all we know, the guy with the bad aim only needed to shoot a
couple people in the audience near Trump so there were real bullets.
That would be the cue for Trump to reach up and crush the red dye pack
to make it look like he was bleeding.

It was interesting to see the video again yesterday and to see a couple
guys in tactical gear and automatic weapons come and guard the front and
the left side while all the photographers were allowed to stay. I would
have expected them to push those guys back to secure the area. Nope...
they wanted lots of photos of the alleged attempt.

I am not usually into conspiracy theories but this one stinks. It looks
to me like it was staged, and so badly staged that it is pathetic to see
how it was used to garner support for that jerk.

I think he was seeking notoriety by trying for a head shot instead of
    the more mundane chest shot.

Apparently he wasn't much of a shot. He fired 8 shots. I buy into the
idea that he was supposed to fire some shots to hit near Trump. They
needed at least one victim to make it look real. At the last minute

Too many people and two many tourists. I had been in Paris in 1993,
1998, 2001 and then again two years ago. I could no believe the increase
in the number of tourists. We had a pass that got us past the lines in
some places but there were a couple, like the Louvre, where you had to
book a reservation about two weeks in advance. We got into the Musee
D'Orsay with okay but l'Orangerie was a 3 1/2 hour wait to get into.

My son and his wife were in Italy a few months ago and had to book weeks
in advance for most of the attractions they were interested in seeing.
It was challenging doing it online because some places had blocks of
dates that would open up every few weeks. He was unable to book Pompeii
until about two weeks before their departure so he was looking at the possibility of arriving there and being unable to see what they had gone
    there for.

There are some cities in Europe that are taking steps to limit the
number of tourists. They are looking at banning or restricting short
term rentals, barring cruise ships, imposing tourist taxes, restricting
the construction of new hotels and more.

Not Europe, but 30 years ago when I visited the Grand Canyon
for the first time there was a two (2) year wait to raft down
the Colorado River. A nine (9) month wait to ride the mules
down into the canyon. B/f was sorely disappointed in not
getting to ride the mules and I was gleefully glad.

Dave, if you had simply let them know who you are, they would have
rolled out the red carpet for a hero police officer.

They had no way of knowing how special and important you are.

"dangerous", being rejected from the team and asked not to come back. >>>

squashable fake capsule of red liquid taped behind an

Shot in the ear? Isn't that the question.... whether or not he was
shot? For all we know, the guy with the bad aim only needed to shoot a couple people in the audience near Trump so there were real bullets.
That would be the cue for Trump to reach up and crush the red dye pack
to make it look like he was bleeding.

It was interesting to see the video again yesterday and to see a couple guys in tactical gear and automatic weapons come and guard the front and the left side while all the photographers were allowed to stay. I would have expected them to push those guys back to secure the area. Nope...
they wanted lots of photos of the alleged attempt.

I am not usually into conspiracy theories but this one stinks. It looks
to me like it was staged, and so badly staged that it is pathetic to see how it was used to garner support for that jerk.

Was the guy that was killed in on it too? He volunteered to die?

What makes you think he's dead? Just a professional
actor lying perfectly still without speaking.
Today he is retired, probably living at a sunny golf

Strategies for limiting tourists are popular in places awash in

Isn't there a way to only let people below a certain IQ in?

Da Hawaiians are attempting an overthrow of the Las Vegas regime and
annexing the place into the state of Hawaii. There's very little chance
of the IQs going downward. We don't want the whole state. I mean, da
Hawaiians aren't a greedy people. We just want one tiny spot in the
    middle of the desert.

The good news is that a second Zippy's has opened up in LV so things are
going according to plan. The strange part is that Zippy's on the
mainland seems to be exactly the same as on Hawaii. There's no meddling
with the menu to suit the tastes of the people of the mainland. This is
a most radical idea. Da Hawaiians love radical ideas.

I remember Over Easy back in the 70s. It was basically a variety show
aimed at seniors and had a cooking segment that had easy recipes for
one or two people. I picked up one of them we used to do quite often,
stuffed pork chops. You get a couple pork chops, slice a pocket into
them and stuff a couple pitted prunes into the pocket. Season with salt
and pepper and sear both sides. Then throw in some chopped potato and
carrot and an onion (halved). Pour in some apple juice and cover for
about 20 minutes. It was quick, easy and delicious.

There's enough starch in this questionable meal for
a week. Corn and chili? 😖 The rice is not
impressive either, although there is a restaurant
here that offers 3-way chili. Chili, tamale, and

I used to know a guy from Florida who ate chili over rice.
My husband eats it over spaghetti. For him, three-way
is spaghetti, chili, and shredded cheddar cheese.

I like to make it very thick and scoop it up with tortilla chips.

One of these days, I should try to make a meatless chili with
a couple of different kinds of beans. I suspect my husband
would exile me to the workshop, though.

I have made a few batches of chili with a variety of beans and no meat.
They were great. I think most of the vegetarian chilis I have had were
    better than those with meat.

The old man meals are meant to be kept in a frozen state and cooked in a microwave. It's the nature of the old man food. In this case, pork chili probably has a much higher specific heat capacity than the other meals.
The heating instructions do not apply. These meals are labeled as being
easy on the teeth, diabetic, and low sodium. On the contrary, they seem
to be high in sodium. Anyway, I'll take a Hungry Man dinner than an old
    man meal any day.

yes, as the Mexican or New Mexican version i consider
    chili.

Tex-Mex or other variants are often with beans and
tomatoes, which are good to me too, perhaps the only
version i don't really enjoy as much is over rice (and
i can eat that too if i have to, but it is my least
favorite version of and of the chilis).

Mom used to make a version called diet chili that
was ok to me, instead of beans it had bean sprouts
and the meat was about half of what we'd normally do
and then she'd add mushrooms. i'd put that in the
middle of the various chilis as to what i thought of
it. it wasn't served over rice, just in a bowl like
    a stew or a soup.

Mom won't touch chili at all these days.

I thought that is what he was saying. What most people call chili is
actually chili con carne. The "with meat descriptor suggests it has been

Maybe the the couple was looking for Trigger...???

    WIKI:

"After the original Trigger (Golden Cloud) died in 1965 at Roy Rogers'

Rogers arranged for Everett Wilkens of Bischoff's Taxidermy in Los
Angeles (now Bischoff's Taxidermy and Animal FX in Burbank, California)
to preserve and mount the horse...

The hide was professionally stretched over a foam likeness of Trigger,

There's enough starch in this questionable meal for
a week. Corn and chili? 😖 The rice is not
impressive either, although there is a restaurant
here that offers 3-way chili. Chili, tamale, and
    spaghetti.

I thought that the full name is "chili con carne" implying that
    the base recipe is vegetarian.

I think you are right but the way it's ued it's almost like 'con carne'
means 'with beans'. That's how it's often functionally used. Reality
is con (with) Carne (meat) is right.

American english mixing with spanish can be very strange. I'm trying
to think of a case of chili with no meat but with beans and come up
blank other than vegetarian chili, as if it were special, versus the
    standard.

I can and have done many a vegetarian chili though. I use lots of
mushrooms. Portobella and cremeni seem optimal for it to me.

    NATIONAL REVIEW:

‘We’re Just Getting Started’: Trump Celebrates First 100 Days in Office at Michigan Rally

"President Donald Trump commemorated his first 100 days in office during
a rally in Michigan on Tuesday, where he celebrated his administration’s
work to curb illegal immigration, cut back government waste, and
    eliminate woke ideology from schools...

“Week by week, we’re ending illegal immigration, we’re taking back our jobs, and protecting our great American autoworkers, and all of or
workers, frankly — we’re protecting all of our workers,” Trump said during the rally. “We’re restoring the rule of law.”...

“We’re ending the inflation nightmare, the worst that we’ve had probably in the history of our country, getting woke lunacy and transgender
insanity the hell out of our government,” he said. “We’re stopping the indoctrination of our children, slashing billions and billions of
dollars of waste, fraud, and abuse, and above all, we’re saving the
American dream. We’re making America great again, and it’s happening fast.”...

    MAGA FOREVER...!!!

I thought you were smart enough to realize it is compared to other presidents.

    <yawn>

He is such a family guy too.

Yes, he has a nice wife, and a fine family... the kids have their heads
screwed on straight, unlike say, HUNTER BIDEN, lol...!!!

Unlike Bill Clintoon, he hasn't been forcing young female interns to
blow him in the Oval Office...

He sent a father to prison in El Salvador, the mother to Venezuela, but
took care of the kid by putting her in foster care.

Sent away the 4 year old with cancer too, so he could die in his
parent's home country. He is a citizen of the USA though.

Did Laken Riley or Rachel Morin "get their due process"... there are
many more victims like this of the EVIL Xiden Regime...

    https://www.fox5dc.com/news/man-accused-2023-rape-murder-maryland-mom-rachel-morin-found-guilty

"Martinez-Hernandez killed 37-year-old Rachel Morin in August 2023. Her
body was found a day after she left to go on a run. He was arrested
    almost 10 months later.

Martinez-Hernandez entered the U.S. illegally from El Salvador in 2023.
He does have known gang ties...

    The backstory:

Rachel Morin, a 37-year-old mother of five, was jogging on the Ma & Pa
Trail in Bel Air around 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 5, 2023 when she vanished. She
was found dead the next afternoon in what authorities described as a
    "criminal homicide..."

ALL of the above "immigrant" *adults* were ILLEGAL ALIENS, and since
they are here ILLEGALLY, they are *ipso facto* ___CRIMINAL___ ILLEGAL
    ALIENS...

As for a criminal illegal alien mother having a small child with her,
that is HER problem, one cannot prevent stupidity...

WHO was going to pay that cancer kid's EXPENSIVE treatment, ED - why
    don't YOU...???

Frankly, I don't give a fuck about CRIMINAL ILLEGAL ALIENS and their
"sob stories" - for them it should be DEPORT DEPORT DEPORT...

    https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c4g8yj2n33yo

Three US citizen children, one with cancer, deported to Honduras,
    lawyers say

"Three young children who are US citizens - including one with cancer -
were deported to Honduras alongside their mothers last week, according
to advocacy groups and the families' lawyers.

One of the children is a four-year-old with Stage 4 cancer who was sent
without medication, a lawyer for the child's family said.

Donald Trump's border czar Tom Homan said the mothers had made the
choice for their citizen children to be removed with them. "Having a US
citizen child does not make you immune from our laws," he said, adding
the mothers were in the US illegally...

Speaking to reporters at a news conference on Monday morning, Homan said deporting families together was better than separating them...

"We're keeping families together," he said. "What we did was remove
children with their mothers who requested the children depart with them. There's a parental decision."...

Homan dismissed the use of the word "deported" to describe the removal
of the children from the country...

"They weren't deported. We don't deport US citizens. Their parents made
that decision, not the United States government," he said...

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Monday touted the administration's immigration enforcement actions during its first 100
    days..."

You need to stop watching MSNBC, Ed... you are now every bit as crazed
with your Trump Derangement Syndrome as someone like Cindy Hamilton...

Anyways, have fun "shouting at the clouds", Ed... and please, "stay
stupid", as your perfervid political natterings are a source of dandy "entertainment"...

    LOLZ...!!!

( *doesn't expect Ed to answer that, lol...!!! )

I'd go with "If you are an ILLEGAL CRIMINAL ALIEN don't come to this

Anyways, they're safely back home, where they belong...

Hopefully, the Supreme Court will be putting the kibosh on the "anchor

"President Trump humiliated ABC’s Terry Moran by revealing why he picked

    100th day in office...

The commander-in-chief put the senior national correspondent in his

“I picked you, but you’re not being very nice,” he complained...

The 78-year-old president’s comments ended the heated discussion on

George Clooney’s wife of 11 years could find herself barred from
entering the United States in the future because of her work with the International Criminal Court, according to a report.

"Anal Clooney, a British human rights lawyer, has reportedly given legal
advice to the court in a war crimes case against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over the
war in Gaza, according to the Financial Times...

George Clooney is an American citizen, and the couple, who share two
young children, have properties in the United States...

Per the Financial Times, the U.K. Foreign Office reportedly recently
warned lawyers, including Amal Clooney, giving legal advice to the International Criminal Court that they could face sanctions due to a
February executive order President Donald Trump signed...

The executive order goes on to say, "The United States will impose
tangible and significant consequences on those responsible for the ICC’s transgressions, some of which may include the blocking of property and
assets, as well as the suspension of entry into the United States of ICC officials, employees, and agents, as well as their immediate family members."..."

Why are Americans even worrying about what the ICC does or doesn't do?
The US is not a party to it. They removed themselves from the

The Canadian election was like an American liberal "MSNBC voter" living
in the Frisco Bay Area voting against Trump while the voter is
surrounded by homeless encampments, legalized drug use, constant
property crime, car window break-ins, unaffordable rents, and housing
costs whilst obssessing over Trump and voting Democrat because of TDS
rather than judging the liberal governance around them...

Canadian Boomers put their TDS ahead of improving Canada...

Boomers sold out their country through sheer Trump Derangement
    Syndrome...

    Look at this poll:

"Canadian Gen Z: “I can’t afford food or a house and our country is
being flooded with millions of foreigners. My nation is being ripped
    away from me!”

    https://x.com/Geiger_Capital/status/1917072078718615843

Canadian Boomers top election issue was “Donald Trump” and their bottom issue was “Making Canada a better place to live” and their lowest
priority issue was "Reducing your cost of living."...

For the 18 to 29 age cohort, predictably, it was the opposite. Hardly
anyone said they cared about "Dealing with Donald Trump" and "Reducing
your cost of living" was the top answer by wide margin...

Can someone help me figure out what happens to a country if it spends a
decade or two compounding negative per capita gdp...???

How very SAD for the once - nice nation of Canada...!!!
