Tonight's fare at Joan's Joint is going to be
homemade tomato soup. I've found several
recipes for this and all are pretty much the
same thing so I thought I'd give it a try.
As much as I've always loved a bowl of hot
tomato soup I just can't stomach Campbell's
version any longer.
A grilled sandwich might be an accompaniment,
too.

The 13 minute dinner.
I went to Publix and they had stuffed potato skins in the prepared food case. Four in a package but two is a decent serving size. They give instructions for both oven and air fryer.
Two pieces of the Just Barely chicken breasts takes 13 minutes in the
air fryer. When the timer got down to 6 minutes, I added the potato skins. While that was going on, I made a salad.
Not gourmet fare, but decent, easy and fast. I'm thinking of staring a new TV series and I'll pitch my idea to Food Network. I'll call it:
Easy Meals for Lazy Old People.

My sister-in-law came over with her cousin, who is a pretty wild woman.
She's into skate boarding and whose business takes her to China several
times a year. She's a woman that refuses to act her age. She said she
could do a handstand on a board. That would be quite a sight. We took
her out to a restaurant in our little town.
The place is famous for its prime rib so I got that. My granddaughter's
baby daddy manages the place. He told me their method for roasting their giant roasts but I forgot it all. He wasn't working that night but
someone told him that his daughter came in so we got a 50% off deal.
That was a pretty good break for us.

parents and my almost 5 year old son was fascinated by Nazis after
watching an Indiana Jones movie. The kid suddenly blurted out "I wish I
could have met Hitler". She said she had met Hitler. He asked what he
was like. She answered "He was a stupid man who destroyed our country".
I have met a couple of patients that said they knew Hitler and that he
was actually a nice guy. These were big German women and as patients,
were on the difficult side. They were also bat-shit crazy. Meeting old
time Hitler lovers was always an interesting experience.
50 years from now, some people may be saying the same thing about DJT.

The language or the people? The have a reputation for having a martial >society and being aggressive. So do many others. The English had an
empire that spanned the globe. The Scandinavians are usually considered
peace loving, but the English are mostly descendants of Danes and
Vikings. Spanish is one of the romance languages but the Spanish were
pretty brutal in the empire building. More recently we have seen a lot
of violence and harsh language from China, Japan and Korea.

Over the last 500 years, English of one kind or another probably

More than in other places. Things have been swinging one way for many
years and now things are swinging back. It is unfortunate that things
swing to extremes rather than sticking closer to the middle where people
may have some common ground.

Its sounds are harsh on the ears. The good news is that a harsh language
like that is easier to understand over long distances. Olelo Hawaii is
not so good in that regard. Da Hawaiians have to use drums or conch
shells with holes in them to sound a long distance warning. Thank God

German is the language of domination and aggression.
In the 30s, for sure. These days, American English has that role.
Over the last 500 years, English of one kind or another probably
has had that role. You'd think a Hawaiian would know that.

Yes, he should. I guess that as an English only speaking imitation

I agree that Americans need to get themselves smarter. In Asia and
America, Asian kids are hassled to become doctors or lawyers or marry
rich. Those kids grow up with a heavy burden to bear. Most American kids aren't hassled to be anything. Da kids just wanna have fun.
If you're a guy like me, you assume that the event was staged. It's just another DJT scam. Anybody with half a brain could see through that. This
does not reflect well on the state of the brains of America. DJT didn't
even try to fake an injury. At least you can't say he doesn't have a
fair amount of audacity. I have to give him that much.

I didn't see the actual report. The White House did a press release,
and that's how it was spelled there.
It would not surprise me at all if it was all staged. Apparently the
shooter was plainly visible and no one intervened until he fired a
couple shots into the crowd close enough to Trump to make it look like
he was the target. Then the shooter got shot, and dead men tell no tales.

The event was indeed staged. Although within their sights during the
entire fiasco, sharpshooters allowed the mutt to fire eight shots before
they ended him. That had to be enough bullets to kill Trump, and dead
men
tell no tales.

squashable fake capsule of red liquid taped behind an
ear/hidden in thick hair, a lot of blanks for the sound
effects and several professional actors (in the crowd and

Shot in the ear? Isn't that the question.... whether or not he was
shot? For all we know, the guy with the bad aim only needed to shoot a couple people in the audience near Trump so there were real bullets.
That would be the cue for Trump to reach up and crush the red dye pack

It was interesting to see the video again yesterday and to see a couple
guys in tactical gear and automatic weapons come and guard the front and

had when I visited before covid.
Too many people and two many tourists. I had been in Paris in 1993,
1998, 2001 and then again two years ago. I could no believe the increase
in the number of tourists. We had a pass that got us past the lines in
some places but there were a couple, like the Louvre, where you had to
book a reservation about two weeks in advance. We got into the Musee
D'Orsay with okay but l'Orangerie was a 3 1/2 hour wait to get into.
My son and his wife were in Italy a few months ago and had to book weeks
in advance for most of the attractions they were interested in seeing.
It was challenging doing it online because some places had blocks of
dates that would open up every few weeks. He was unable to book Pompeii
until about two weeks before their departure so he was looking at the possibility of arriving there and being unable to see what they had gone there for.

We went about a dozen years ago. Just decided to go the next day, drove
up and it was not busy at all. End of March, not prime time. It was interesting to see.

Two pieces of the Just Barely chicken breasts takes 13 minutes in the

Not gourmet fare, but decent, easy and fast. I'm thinking of

cheese, but darn if I can remember the 5ᵗʰ one.

If the chili was still cold after an additional 4 minutes cooking
time I'd say David's microwave is f'd up. As for Bruce yapping about
corn, yeah, we get it, he doesn't like corn. He can stop beating

Only thing I can think of is it was frozen and the meal had frozen and defrosted fridge directions. The shorter time matches defrosted. The
longer time is for frozen.

I thought that is what he was saying. What most people call chili is
actually chili con carne. The "with meat descriptor suggests it has been added to an otherwise vegetarian dish.

People on the mainland are advised to stay away from Hawaiian style
chili - especially if you're a chili-head. I saw a couple get totally flabbergasted by our chili. They were in the restaurant booth across
from where we were sitting, which gave me a ringside seat to all the
action.
His expression was what you'd expect to see if the waitress had served
him a live hamster on a plate - a look of alarm mixed with befuddlement.
I could tell they weren't from here because he was dressed like Roy

town? You'd think that these circus people would be more savvy about the foods of other people.

I think you are right but the way it's ued it's almost like 'con carne'
means 'with beans'. That's how it's often functionally used. Reality
is con (with) Carne (meat) is right.
American english mixing with spanish can be very strange. I'm trying
to think of a case of chili with no meat but with beans and come up
blank other than vegetarian chili, as if it were special, versus the standard.
I can and have done many a vegetarian chili though. I use lots of
mushrooms. Portobella and cremeni seem optimal for it to me.
