Is shrove Tuesday here again already? j/k. I don't pay enough attention religious holidays to plan any cooking around it. I am looking forward
to corned beef brisket. Not because of St. Patrick's Day but because I
love corned beef brisket. Love it any time of the year but I can only
find it in March. So I'll buy a couple or three when it's on sale
before 3/17 and put them in the freezer.

Tomorrow I'll finish off the blueberry pancakes made last Thursday. I
made a four serving batch and alternate for a week.

I guess that means tomorrow is Ash Wednesday. Maybe I'll burn toast or something to keep the ash tradition going.

Today here is not a day to cook. In the middle of carnival, lunch was feijoada, served in a restaurant by a waitress. The feijoada came accompanied by collard greens, orange, and rice, and to drink, mate with ginger foam, which added a special touch.

I used to use a recipe that required a half dozen ingredients, butter,
eggs, buttermilk, baking powder, flour, etc. It was good but time
    consuming.

Then I tried a mix. Following the instructions, you just add water, but
I do add an egg and a shot of vanilla. Once mixed, I just add a bunch
of blueberries and mix them in.

My stove has a griddle in the center but any griddle or pan would work.
I get 17 or so to a batch, four per serving.

At the same time, I cook eight slices of bacon in the oven. I get that
started first @375 degrees. Pan with parchment paper.

For a few years we had some Dutch neighbours who ran a flower shipping business. We never heard a peep from them on Sundays. I don't know if
they were at church all day or stayed in side. I was surprised to see
them working on Good Friday. I thought that was like the holiest of holy
days and if you can't work on Sundays you sure as dickens would not be working in the day they  hero died.

Going back about 6 or 7 decades, people would work but stop from 12 to
    3. Some stores would close and people would spend the time in church.

It actually is a nice balance of sweet and savory. I have two slices
along with four pancakes. They get maple syrup of course.

Here, have an ice cream. With a pork chop, of course.

Nothing like it. The protein is a good compliment to the carbs. Bacon
is fairly common with sweets, unlike other meats. I've seen chocolate
coated bacon and bacon cooked with brown sugar on it.

I'd never make other traditional breakfast meats with it, just the salty >bacon.

If it works for you, that's what matters. I've never had such a combo
    myself.

Not really. Look up John Calvin.

First you had Catholicism. Then people said "I don't like that! I'm
Protesting against Catholicism!" So you got Protestants. Then people
didn't like that either, so they said "I don't like that! I'm

How Protestant? I was indoctrinated in the Anglican church and it was a

Today here is not a day to cook. In the middle of carnival, lunch was feijoada, served in a restaurant by a waitress. The feijoada came accompanied by collard greens, orange, and rice, and to drink, mate with ginger foam, which added a special touch.

Of course. There is no science behind it. It is a matter of faith so you
are either with them or you are against them and in the good old days it
was not good to be ostracized. They invented blasphemy laws to prevent
people from even questioning the religion or the religious leaders. Look
at the strife between Catholics and Protestants. The early Protestants
dared to question the teachings of the Catholic church, things like indulgences, which were a great source of income but which had no basis
in the bible. Heck, look at how the 10 commandments are more about
obeying god that getting along together.

I met a Mormon couple yesterday. I was in the parking lot at Target and
the car in front of my car had its hood up. A nicely dressed portly
gentleman was working under the hood. You could tell he wasn't from
here. I went up to him to offer assistance. He was trying to get the
terminals off of his horribly corroded battery with pliers with little
luck. A nicely dressed portly woman from the other side of the car. She addressed his as "Elder." It was then, that I noticed they were wearing
big name tags that said "Church of Latter Day Saints."

What he needed was a 10mm wrench to loosen the terminal nut. Oddly
enough, I had a 10mm socket and ratchet in my glove compartment. This
made his task simple and he replaced the battery with one from Costco.
The battery was a lot smaller than the one he replaced. Shrinkflation, I
    guess.

The guy offered me payment for the use of the ratchet. "Absolutely not.
I was sent by Jesus to help you in your time of need." Well, I said the
first part. The second part was just something I came up with after
sitting in my car, after the couple drove off. Say, maybe I am an agent
    for Jesus.

    Pretty much.

Jews don't recognize Jesus as the Messiah.
Protestants don't recognize the Pope as head of the church.
Baptists don't recognize each other in the liquor store.

I met a Mormon couple yesterday. I was in the parking lot at Target and
the car in front of my car had its hood up. A nicely dressed portly
gentleman was working under the hood. You could tell he wasn't from
here. I went up to him to offer assistance. He was trying to get the terminals off of his horribly corroded battery with pliers with little

Shrinkflation, I guess.

The guy offered me payment for the use of the ratchet. "Absolutely not.
I was sent by Jesus to help you in your time of need." Well, I said the
first part. The second part was just something I came up with after
sitting in my car, after the couple drove off. Say, maybe I am an agent
    for Jesus.

You sure are! I recognize them when I meet them! =D

That certainly raises your stature. When you go to church on Sunday I'm
sure the pastor will want you to tell your story of leading someone to automotive salvation.

    Bless you David. Bless you.

Indeed, solving the problems of other people has been my life's work. Yesterday, I was connecting a Windows computer to a database and getting
the office phone connected. I also helped a man by adjusting his hearing
aid. It's always gratifying to help people. I'm only here to help. OTOH,
I have not been able to get the Windows computer connected - but I will.

Hmm, have you tried changing the windows computer to a linux computer?

I don't use Windows computers at home. The office computers use Windows
OSes because the proprietary software only works on those systems. At
home, I use Linux computers i.e., Chrome and Android computers and I'm
as happy as a clam. Windows are mostly for baby boomers. Luckily,

I am happy and content. Here's what I had for lunch. Curry rice and >>>>>>> chicken. The chicken was chicken breast. I'm not a fan of chicken >>>>>>> breast

Excellent example of your life philosophy! =) I do not like chicken >>>>>> breast
either. Usually I go for wings or thighs. If I had to eat chicken
    breast
I'd probably shred it and go for chicken soup.

I got two more chicken breast that needs to be cooked up. They will be >>>>> gently poached and served with ginger scallion sauce. I love that sauce. >>>>>

Hmm, this is interesting! I might try it next time I am forced to eat
chicken! Thank you for the tip!

The sauce works if you like ginger. I like extra ginger in mine. The
chicken is prepared to be as bland as possible. After poaching, you dump >>> the chicken in ice and serve it cold.

I do like ginger! It is one of the components in my famous General Tsos
chicken that my wife loves very much. =) I only cook it with chicken
    thigh.

Chicken thighs work fine. I used chicken breast because I wanted to get
rid of them before they turned bad.

Very wise choice! But don't you worry that the chickens in your yard are plotting their revenge?
