• Idahoan Cheese Mashed Potatoes

From Ed P@21:1/5 to All on Mon Mar 3 23:36:41 2025
My DIL is a decent cook, but tonight she tried a shortcut. Cheese
mashed potatoes sound good, but these were horrid, IMO. She tossed the leftovers.

Easy to make, just boil water, stir in the powder.

Texture was not nearly as good as real potatoes and the flavor was . .
    .absent.

Maybe they could be salvaged with lots of butter, salt, even some
cheese, but I'd never buy them based on this one time taste. Maybe they
    just needed more Tocopherols.

They actually tasted like they needed some salt. No idea why sugar
would be put into a potato recipe.

There is some good news though. It reminded me that I've not made
mashed potatoes in a while. When I do, I make a good sized batch and
freeze portions in a muffin pan. Wrap and take one out as desired in
    the future.

Perhaps to balance the tanginess from the buttermilk?

I've lost track; were these potatoes dry in a box? If so, the
cheese would be powdered, so it would represent more cheese
content than if it were fresh.

It was a pouch, same idea though. It is a fairly fine powder that you
    stir into the water.

While I don't fault anyone for taking a shortcut, the quality of the end product does not justify the time saved. The idea pf a nice cheesey
mashed potato was appealing. We were all disappointed with the result.

If it's a flavor problem, that can be addressed. I'd probably add some
MSG and a little mustard. You're probably stuck with the texture.

Consider that to be in line with his nymshifting. People sometimes screw
up and end up in Bozo Bins. Some of them smarten up, change their user
names and try not to be as offensive. Then there are those, like GM, who
are well aware that most people have filtered them and end up
nymshifting over and over and over. It is their way of acknowledging and admitting that they are complete fucking losers.
