I am trying to buy a live center for my Dalton lot 2 Lathe. The stamping on my on dead center is marked MT 2. My drill chuck also has a MT2 stamping. When I order from Amazon the MT2 Live Centers, it doesn’t fit. I tried several manufactures, and
none fit, they are all too loose. If someone knows what I am doing wrong please help. Here are my measurements:
Drill Chuck
.750 Large end
.610 Small end
2.266 Shank Length
Dead center
.725 large end
.585 small end
4.185 Length
Tailstock MT Spindle Shaft
.722 Hole Bore
.125 Key Grove
1.125 Diameter
6.010 Length
It sounds like you don't have a standard Morse taper. A quick search
engine check on-line says the big end of an MT2 is about .700 and a #3
is much larger at 0.938. I just looked at my copy of Machinery's
Handbook and it says 0.700 and 0.938 respectively at the gage line, so
the Internet is right.
Your options may include to make your own tapers to fit, make or modify
a tail stock barrel that works with a standard Morse taper, or find out
if your lathe used some other taper and hope there is tooling still
available in that form.
You might see if somebody like Vintage Machinery has any more
information on your lathe.

Also lathes.co.uk if I recall may have some information.
