    Nice capture.

    It is difficult to judge size, but it looks to me to me either a Cooper's
    Hawk, or a Sharp-shinned Hawk.

    It is difficult to judge size, but it looks to me to me either a Cooper's Hawk, or a Sharp-shinned Hawk.


    On closer examination I am pretty sure that it is a Cooper’s Hawk -
    Accipiter cooperii

    Yeah, it sure does look just like yours.

    It can be tough to ID juveniles when they look so different from the
    parents. In this case, can't disguise the chunky build or the shape of
    the tail, though! There are loads of Red-tails around here.
