I don't know how this could work since the wraps would be exposed to the pressure of your hands in the wrong direction nd eventually push it loose on the bar.

There are plenty of useful, helpful youtube videos for all

    Ass backwards, both.

Cotton tape wraps bottom to top, same as modern tape.

Wrapped backwards, the edges peel up at the outside curve in
use. No different from laying roof shingles bottom to top (!).

p.s. classic Italian bar plugs won't work at all with

Speaking of which, as I was returning from my ride this morning, there is a weird intersexction where traffic can either turn into the shopping center parking lot to the right or most traffic turns right at the end of the block. As a bike, I go straight
and stay in the middle lane. Some Asian woman nearly hit me. The left rear quarter of her new car was recently worked on and was primeed. And already the left front fender was being held on with duct tape. All she had to do was lift off of the gas for
one second and she could pull over into the right lane but without any room she passed me almost hitting me with her mirror and then cutting other cars off to get into the right lane. This is getting to be far too common.

Liebermann, has to be the exper no matter what the question. Cloth handlebar tape would be even more prone to pealing up because the cloth has less 3 dimensional stability. I do not believe for one second that Trek ever wond handlebar tape bass ackwards.

Amazingly, it can go worse. Much worse:

There is something wrong with that statement as when laying shingles
you do lay them from bottom to the top. You start at the eves and end
    at the roof peak.
