From John B.@21:1/5 to All on Thu Jul 3 03:05:14 2025
    A question.
Some time ago someone ( was it
tom) had some problems accessing this site and was unable to read and
    answer posts here.

Recently my main computer's installation of Agent stopped working
leaving me only this ancient portable to post on this site. If anyone
remembers the conversation please tell me how to read/write this site
    with some other software.

I use Forte Agent and have often attempted to answer Tom's questions.

I probably have a copy on my computer. Instead, try searching for
    "Agent" or "Forte Agent" using:

    Google Groups (before Feb 22, 2024) <https://groups.google.com/g/rec.bicycles.tech/search?q=Forte%20Agent>
As far as I can tell, the database index is corrupted. It frequently
finds exactly what I'm searching for. But when I try to expand and
read the it found, the part I want is missing.

NovaBBS (which is often VERY slow to start)
    Start here:
    <https://www.novabbs.com/tech/thread.php?group=rec.bicycles.tech>
Insert "Forte Agent" in the "Search Terms" box.
    Click on "body" and "subject".
    Click on "search" button.
In "Sort by", click on "Relevance", and then click on "Reload".
Scroll through what it finds and hopefully you'll find what you're
    looking for.

Stopped working is a very useful description. Some details on what
problem you're trying to solve would be helpful.

Good luck. I'll try to look at this thread more often and see how
    you're doing.

Oops. Memory fault. Tom doesn't use Forte Angent. He tried it
sometime in Jan or Feb 2024, just before Google Groups stopped
providing Usenet server. Thatever you're looking for might me in that
    time frame.

    That should be:
"Stopped working is NOT a very useful description"

Mr Slocumb may have a problem unrelated to 'search', since
    he didn't mention that.

He mentioned that his computers "stopped working" which implies that
Forte Agent was previously working. From my perspective, that means
he should be trying to determine what changed just before something
    failed.

    Try here:

Reading the documentation as a last resort solution. For me, the fun
is determining the cause and contriving a working solution. Merely
finding the answer in a blog, FAQ or in the docs takes all the fun out
    of troubleshooting.

If you were using Eternal September, the

    reader443.eternal-september.org port 443 (SSL)

stopped working for me. Certificate error.
I waited 2 days for them to fix it(they didn't), then changed
    to

    news.eternal-september.org port 563 (SSL)

    It's working again.

    Seems they acknowledged the fault:

    <https://www.eternal-september.org/serverstatus.php?language=en>

    Dunno if it's fixed.
