Disc brakes add about a lb to a bike. But the modern discs are not at all like the original ones which violently sgopped a bike so hard that it could thrw you over the bars.

The modern discs slow you down almost exactly the same as rim brakes or even smoother and they allow you to place large tires on the bike without having a pinch between the rim brake pads.

After a couple of months riding my DeRosa Idol, I have to say that I haven't had the slightest problem with the discs other than having to learn how to properly Bleed the brake with its internal hoses.

So, if you are considering a new bike but worried about stories as I've told you before, be allayed because the new brakes are so much improved that the onlyminus point is the added weight and I don't worry about a lb.
