I don't understand why you brought guns into your comment. The incident showed that guns were not used nor needed.

Indeed a gun would escalate rather than de escalate the situation, the
pretend you know the woman and the arse disappears is a very much a thing,
as folks can be alone in crowd so doesn’t require much just the fact that
the Target isn’t alone is enough in my experience.

    Yes. And no.

Depending on the particulars, the prosecutors can (and
sometimes do) view that as 'brandishing' that is, escalating
the incident. Judiciously, sure. Capriciously, not so much.

OK, so they apprehended an illegal immigrant who was already deported
once, had other interactions with police recently, threatened a US
attorney with a knife (who happened to work on trumps presidential
campaign), but we're expected to believe that ICE agents in this case
asked the judge for an arrest warrant?

    sure....

Had I had the gun back when I was attacked, I would have pulled it
from the holster when it became clear he was preparing to stop me. I'm
pretty sure I would have been within my rights and pretty sure that
seeing it would have put an end to his intents.

Guns could have caused a tragedy. There was nothing in the
article to indicate that anyone was going to be assaulted or raped.

Nonsense, simply announcing and/or displaying the fact that you have a
gun will back most attackers off.

Bolsonaro announced he was armed when a group of teenagers
surrounded him and two of his sons when he was out at night looking
    for male prostitutes.
Result: They lost their 3 firearms but were allowed to leave
unharmed. Three brand new 9mm H&K in the hands of young psychopaths.
Always avoid showing you have a gun when you are in a "bad"
    district. You are outnumbered.
    []'s

PS Bolsonaro registered a complaint at the local police
station. It's how the press got the story. LOL.

campaign), but we're expected to believe that ICE agents in this case
asked the judge for an arrest warrant?

Well, ICE does seem to be deporting ONLY hard working honest
immigrants with NO criminal history. Trump is so fond of criminals
he's surrounded himself with them. No ICE agent would risk deporting
    one of Trump's buddies. He's be "DOGE'd"
    So I believe it.
