The new front derailleur came today. It's a Shimano Journey. I'll wait
to install it when the rest of the equipment gets here in a few days.
I wasn't sharp enough to pick on the now obvious fact that a chain
ring guard can't be bigger than the big chain ring. I took the guard
off and still couldn't get the old derailleur to work, so it simply
won't work on the 175mm cranks. I think the chain path is different.
I have a new 53t coming to install behind the old Catrike 53t sized
guard. Somewhere down the road I have a 50t sized guard coming from
China. I held my nose and ordered it through AliExpress and there's no
telling if and when it might get here. I might put it on with the 50t
ring that's on the 175mm cranks now... or I might put the 50s on the
old 165mm cranks.
A neighbor stopped in to ask why I don't take it to a bike shop. I
told him I would miss out on all the fun I'm having. He doesn't
understand.
