L-23 Super Blanik Front Brake "Wire"

Actually the parts catalog refers to the connection between the front brake lever and the aft brake lever as a "wire." We have new wire and connectors from Blanik America.

Does anyone have experience changing it? It broke near the front lever. Access is very poor. Just not doable with my big hands.

Any tips or tricks would be appreciated.

I'm not familiar with the L-23, but am rather familiar with changing cables.

Is the new cable already made up with the ends or is it raw cable?

If its raw cable on at least one end, here is one option.

If the sheathing or routing of the cable is not real tight, you can cut the broken cable end clean, wipe it clean of lube, clean the new cable end and slide about 6 inches of shrink wrap on it. Butt the new and old cable end together, center the warp and
shrink it tight.
Now go to the aft end of the old cable and pull it out - drawing the new cable in place. now add the ends,
You may want to measure and mark the length of the new cable prior to pulling it through. I usually put one end together on a bench., mark the length, and then pull the other end through.

If you think the sheathing is too tight for the shrink wrap there are other ways to connect the cables prior to pulling through that can take more tension than shrink wrap.

How much new cable do you have? Is it just the length you need or perhaps at least double the length?
Double length can make it easier to mark the final length of the new cable.

Hi Bill,

I’ve changed that wire before and I know what you mean! I think I removed one of the brake handles and attached it then reinstalled the handle. That way I only had to do one end through the inspection holes. (Hope that makes sense.)

To the other guy that replied it’s actually a stiff wire he’s talking about and not a cable.

Thanks Charlie, that's what we were thinking, remove the front one. Have the loop already in the wire for the aft pin.

The Piper Cubs have a similar arrangement between the front and rear brake. I think Dakota Cubs came up with a threaded rod/fork arrangement. If I had to do a lot of L-23’s I would adapt it. Fortunately I only had to do the one.
