• What Is Happening In Florida????

From [email protected]@21:1/5 to All on Wed Feb 1 14:54:32 2023
Here we are only at the end of January and things are heating up, the motorglider guys at Seminole have been doing their early flights in preparation for the Geritol Classis and the Maverick's down in Vero seem to be showing the boys what triangles are
all about. Yes, those motorglider children are really going to be ticked off when the daily scores of the Gerotol Classic are posted. If you think we got their attention in 2020 wait until 2023.
These motorglider guys are look at the daily scores on OLC and shaking their heads and it is only the first day of February. Come on guys let's pick up your game. OLD Bob, The Purist

Hoo boy…..if I had to thermal 37 times to go 190 miles (OLC) while baking in the cockpit like one of your cornbreads …
I would open up a can of ‘RAS wup ass’ on the wx man too. Or maybe not as it could indicate a need for some thermaling practice. You will get better Bobby…keep trying.
37….got to be a record….need to look that up…I didn’t thermal that much flying from Ft. Lauderdale to Atlanta over a nine hour period…and I was in a 1-26.
Bobby! When are you going to come up and visit, not when it’s busy with the GeezerGlide, but before?
We fly, drink whiskey and make fun of white people. It’s all the rage.
Save some time for yourself Bobby….no one else will.

R, I hope you drink whiskey better that you predict the WX, you almost caused me to do a land out in a sod farm, the MG guys would be laughing their ass 's off, now listen I will not fly anymore until the Classic, so please show the boys how we do it in
South Florida. where is The Bum???? sure would like to fly with that guy maybe Herbie could join in on the fun.
I am not flying anymore until the WX changes, Skyleen will have the controls, nothing to write home about, but she might just keep you guys honest. Bob, Old Bob, The Purist

What is going on!!!!!!!! The month has barely started and all I see is massive triangles being flown out of one of the best soaring sites in the State of Florida. Anyone out there dares to challenge the boys out of TCSC and actually do something about it?
?? One thing though... Bring pure gliders!!!!!!!!

2TK, well, they do the best that they can do up there in the motorglider hovel of Florida. I did get a couple of calls today from around the country asking me a few questions and commenting on the recent flights. This was my answer, I replied, these big
dogs bring all these fancy gliders like an Arcus M, MH31, 18 meter Ventus's, JS 3 18 meter ships and here I am flying an old ASW27, showing the boys what a nice triangle is and yet they just don't quiet get the picture. The good thing to come out of all
this friendly bantering is that we are forcing a change on the old boys, look at the flights of the past three or four days, some of the guys are trying to duplicate our flights with small triangles of their own. Glad that we are making such an impact!

Ernie , I know you’re loyal to Uncle Bobby. And that is just swell. Bobby….glad to see you recovered from that ‘heat stroke’ flight you did yesterday. You’re good now for.the rest of the month. Tomorrow I retreat back to home port to wait for good weather to return.

R, thanks for all the weather prognostication, but at least could you be right at least once. Yes, it did get rather warm during my flight, but the worse part was climbing out of that 690 foot hole in the middle of nowhere and giving it one last turn
before landing in the Greenwell Sod Farm. Yes, I thought I saw Eric down there holding the welcome sign and getting the Cuba Libre and cigar ready for my arrival.
As you already know the WX is changing and we will be down for a few days, as you depart Clermont and head South please take the turn at Yeehaw Junction and come on over to Vero Beach I will let you talk to Ernie, he will give you a few tips on
    forecasting weather.
Take care , see you soon. Old Bob, The Purist

Now this is what I've been talking about! When I said "if you aren't getting retrieved occasionally, you don't really know your soaring limits and you are leaving some good soaring on the table", I didn't think you'd follow my advice. Now, you didn't
actually land, but you were so close to it (lower than pattern altitude), I'm declaring it a "constructive landout". I'm sure you were under a lot of pressure, thinking you were going to land a two hour drive from Hibiscus, yet you didn't give up, got up
and away, and completed a task that SkySight says can just barely be be done on that day, and you have to leave at exactly the right time! That's way closer to landing out than you've been in the last five years, so it's not like you have a lot of
practice at climbing out of a hole.

BTW, Greenwells might have a cattle ranch or coffee plantation, but Island boys don't do sod! That was undoubtedly a Mainland Greenwell you saw.

Eric, I had to hustle down to Miami this morning for a Dr. appointment but just returned back to Vero and read your reply. First of all, there was NO pressure, I am a purist and that word is not in my vocabulary! I have been lower and climbed back out
but on that day I stayed warm in the cockpit as R made reference to.
Here is the real kicker, the MG guys took notice this week that OBTP is feeling better and therefore the fun begins in Florida. All those BIG DOGS with their 21 meter motorgliders could not even take a second place. Saving from a very low altitude is
something that I have practiced for many years recently I showed to guys how to pull from a BURNER and go back to 3K, it is good practice for such low saves, and by NO means am I advocating anyone to do it, you can see it on OLC if you look hard enough.
The recovery from the low altitude was challenging, yet there was a huge obstacle ahead of that . The obstacle as I refer to is Threading The Needle, that airspace at the top of R 2901 and class B MCO. My flying partner made reference to doing that as
having a pet rattlesnake, sooner than later you will get bit.
I could have sworn that was you on the ground dressed in a Tom Sellick Hawaiian shirt, with a big hat woven from palm leaves, holding up a bottle of Matusalem Rum, with the ice glittering in the rays of the bright sun. Old Bob, The Purist

They did fly a lot faster than you did, but they were flying a task that did not make good use of the day. Also, I am often mistaken for Mr. Selleck (I sign his autograph all the time).

It happened again today, once again the flight out of Vero Beach was impressive. I have been telling you big dogs to pay attention, things are happening down on the Treasure Coast. So, you guys have less than four weeks before the Geritol HWY 27 Classic
kicks off, you big dogs better be logging some better flights than you have lately.
Now this year I will be sending up more prizes for the winner's, as usual the Purist award will be a nice bottle of Matusalem Rum, the overall winner will be presented with a Bob Virelli single edition painting. Also will be bringing up a great supply of
beers for the tow pilot's evening briefings.
I really hate to put too much pressure on all you big dogs, but maybe R can pick the game up and get things rolling this week. In the mean time, I will hopefully be able to get a tow on Thursday and give you big dogs something to shoot for even with my
lowly ASW27. Eat more mangoes, Old Bob, The Purist

I forgot, I will be asking Rich if I could be the guy that says , "Gentlemen Start Your Engines" , just a thought. OBTP

37….got to be a record….need to look that up…I didn’t thermal that much flying from Ft. Lauderdale to Atlanta over a nine hour period…and I was in a 1-26.

R, I hope you drink whiskey better that you predict the WX, you almost caused me to do a land out in a sod farm, the MG guys would be laughing their ass 's off, now listen I will not fly anymore until the Classic, so please show the boys how we do
it in South Florida. where is The Bum???? sure would like to fly with that guy maybe Herbie could join in on the fun.
I am not flying anymore until the WX changes, Skyleen will have the controls, nothing to write home about, but she might just keep you guys honest. Bob, Old Bob, The Purist
Could it possibly true again today, the triangles just keep getting bigger and bigger from the Maverick's in Vero and the weather was not that good. Hey guys, are you tired of getting your plate of humble pie every day this week ? Maybe you should

What is going on!!!!!!!! The month has barely started and all I see is massive triangles being flown out of one of the best soaring sites in the State of Florida. Anyone out there dares to challenge the boys out of TCSC and actually do something about
it??? One thing though... Bring pure gliders!!!!!!!!

Ernie, Ernie squawk ! Yes, what is going on down in Vero Beach? Again today The Nelsonator lit the skies up with another flight deep into the swamps! It was a pleasure being his tow pilot and hopefully this week I will be making a couple of pure flights
that will keep the BIG DOGS, Woof Woof up at the Geritol Hovel looking at the boys down south and shaking their heads.
Now "R", is down in Delray, looking at the sky and saying, "What Are The Guys IN Vero Doing", I get text from him commenting on Eileen's flights or lack of it, and she will be looking for him in Clermont when we come up that way during the Classic.
I did get an email today from a well known glider pilot saying that he would like to fly out of Vero to tune up for the Geritol Classic. I told him that we would love to have him here for the TCSC SAFARI. Alfonso Jr, is planning on being here for the
SAFARI, pilots from Morarity are planning to be here, and once again, OBTP will be making a few flights that may just give the BIG BOGS something to shake their heads about even in my "LOWLY 27", as Jim Lee would say. Eat More Mangoes, Old Bob, The Purist

The tow plane is in the process of being sold to the club, yes after 6 1/2 years of providing tow plane's to the club I will finally be without a beloved Pawnee. Hard to imagine me without a Pawnee. Maybe DSM-5 can finally figure out a way to track it. I
am sure that I will still be towing most of the time, making sure that all the PURIST get in the air and enjoy being towed by the "TOWPECKER", and I can still ask if anybody is flying their MOTORGLIDERS out of Seminole on the radio. Eat more mangoes, Old

To me, soaring is an expensive, sorta risky, useless endeavor that helps me avoid yardwork. A PERFECT hobby! A decent OLC score is a bonus, but it's not why I fly.
