• Was It The Motorglider Mafia

Only to arrive at the gliderport yesterday and find a parking reservation sign posted near the door at the spot where I usually park. the sign read, "RESERVED PARKING FOR MOTORGLIDER BOB TCSC". I have come to the conclusion that this was a conspiracy
generated by a group called, The Motorglider Mafia, who else would do such a thing? Old Bob, The Purist

Don't get cross-wise with the MM, or there will be a visit from Tony Tenor: "Nice car you
got parked in the motorglider spot. Be a shame if you didn't own a motorglider, and
something happened to the car when a motorglider pilot drove up..."

Not that it is an issue for me (never know) but does a sustainer count as a MG? The glider I have flown this year (102hrs, ASW-24ee) can self launch although I haven't tried yet, but I have done a climbout and a self retrieve.
Never know, maybe I visit Neal and fly at TCSC....to warm my broken aging bones....

Come on down, someone needs to take that Motorglider parking space. OBTP

Most definitely; in fact, the self-retrieve ability is what ties the biggest knots in
OBTP's knickers! He doesn't seem to mind the self-launch ability.

If you can get a tow when you want it, where you want it, a sustainer is usually a better
choice than a self-launcher. The caveat is self-retrieving in high altitude, mountainous
areas may be unworkable if the sustainer isn't powerful enough.

I have taken off in an gas-powered ASW-24E. at Black Forest glider club, elevation 7050', in July. It was a long takeoff run, but it worked. We
were on a soaring safari and flew all over Colorado, New Mexico, and
Utah. Don't know if an "e" model could hack it.

My understanding is, it (Asw-24e-e) does better at end of runway at 540'msl than a 180 Pawnee....
I still fly as though I am a pure glider...
