• Discus 2b wheel removal

From India November@21:1/5 to All on Fri Nov 4 13:59:39 2022
Anyone have any hints on how to remove a Discus 2b wheel with mechanical drum brake?

I want to take mine off to clean up the brake. The manual says "disconnect the brake cable and remove the connecting link then remove the axle". Done that. But I can't see how to free the torque lug on the brake plate from the LH undercarriage leg--a
round pin that engages a hole in the leg.

    All tips gratefully received.

I owned a few 2b’s’, change a tube a few times, brake pads. I never removed the cable from the brake assembly.
Two bolts allow the assembly to split apart and be moved from the wheel area (cable still attached) allowing the axel to be removed.
In turn, the wheel is free for removal. Take photos of the assembly as you progress to aid in reassembly. With help, rotate the fuselage in the trailer dolly to lay on its side to ease disassembly. Use wing tape to hold open gear doors, etc. You’ll
need to improvise as you go to eliminate booby traps. Slow and easy.
It gets easier each time. Common sense rules, it is a simple process.
    Good luck.

Can’t follow your description, but I believe you must remove the bolt or pin at the brake arm then slide the wheel and brake down after removing the axle. If he wheel hasn’t been off for years, it will take quite a bit of force in order to make the
wheel and spacers to move. This procedure is known as Brogan Maintenance ……..give it a good kick!

Deflating the tire can also be helpful.

Unsportsmanlike conduct for sure. Contact rules committee.
