• Soaring NW Nevada, NE CA

From Doug Bailey@21:1/5 to All on Wed Oct 25 10:56:18 2023
Does anyone have soaring experience over the mountains at the intersection of CA, NV and OR? There's a range that runs North/South through Oregon, across the NE tip of CA east of Goose Lake and west of the Hart MOA, potentially linking up with Airsailing,
    and Minden to the south-south-east.

It looks like there's a series of paved landout options (Paisley, Lakeview, Fort Bidwell, Cedarville and Eagleville). And a cautionary note about "Extreme turbulence and severe up and downdrafts during high wind conditions" on the sectional.

Doug you referring to the Warner Mountain range. We occasionally fly from Truckee all the way to to beyond Lakeview, OR and back few times every season. I get there once per year in average. Landed at Lakeview couple of times over the years. Also the
Bend club has a Fly inn at Lakeview every year. Lakeview and Cedarville will be an excellent place to fly your motorglider from through the summer.

Yes as Ramy said it can be quite good along the Warner's, south towards Truckee, or north following the high country up toward Paisley to the Paulina caldera (East lake and Paulina Lake). Classic desert soaring, just turned down a notch. It can be
exceptionally pleasant! I'd spend a lot more time out of Lakeview if I had a motorglider.
The pilots from High Desert Soaring out of Bend usually head south if we can and fly that direction on good days. Here are a few examples, during some very good conditions:
