• Dittel FSG-71M Low Volume

From George Haeh@21:1/5 to All on Sun Aug 13 19:16:47 2023
In the last week or so, the receiver volume is very low, even with the volume set to maximum.

    Any suggestions?

    That is an odd one. Some shot-in-the-dark ideas;

    - If the audio level is low behind a background of increased "static" it might be a bad antenna.
    - You might want to check the wiring from the radio to the speaker as it may have become frayed.
    - The speaker may have become defective. Weak permanent magnet maybe.
    - Send it in for a bench test. Contact info for repair shops can be found in my document http://aviation.derosaweb.net/presentations/#transceiver

    Good luck, John

That is an old radio now.
    They don't last forever.
I had one and my last service from Miami radio was 450 bucks.
I don't know if it's worth putting any $ into it.
Look for a replacement from that guy from Europe that posts here, Ross, I got a newer used Dittel off him for I think 350, it plugged right in and works great.
    My 2 cents

Sounds more like an internal issue.

I have a few 25khz radios here. I can even offer a freshly overhauled FS71M for a reasonable price.

Flipping the squelch switch and the volume several times got the volume back, but scratchy. I took the radio home, pulled the knobs (1.3 mm hex bit) and face plate; then squirted SQ and volume control with electronic cleaner - very small openings.

Reinstalled radio and it's now working fine.

Our club has a G102 with a FSG60M that had a low volume. Sent to Peninsula Avionics.
They found a bad capacitor in the audio circuit and replaced it. Total bill under $400.
    It works well now.
