Apparently MK356 suffered engine failure on takeoff.

    I read
"Probe into fatal replica Spitfire crash"
Is this original from 1940s, or is it a more modern
    'replica'?

Yes. I did not do well in expressing my thoughts in my post.
I think they were dangerous to learn to fly and to fly back
when they were brand new, , so we probably should not be surprised.

#1 I'm reminded that there are now more "original" and authenticated
Lotus 19 race cars than Lotus ever claimed making. Oh Well!!

    #2 I found this:

Hi it's Nik Coleman here, one of the Directors. As you might expect
there's lots of twaddle being talked in the press and elsewhere about
the BBMF tragedy over the weekend and the subsequent grounding of some
    or all BBMF aircraft.

EDIT: I'm not knocking the media - let's face it, I am part of it. I'm
talking mainly about comments on socials and chat groups, and the age
old 'they should all be in museums' argument - a view people are
entitled to, which I personally don't subscribe to.

Just FYI I'd call grounding an absolutely rational response. But it's
nothing to do with the perceived age of the aircraft. One possibility is
engine maintenance - all the single seater fighters and the Lancaster
use similar - but not identical - Merlins or Griffons, so they'll want
check procedures, and there will be dozens of other commonalities to
check - even lock wire, coolant, oil, fasteners, electrical breakers and anything else that may have been a contributing factor which might be
    common between aircraft.

Please, please dont be sucked in by any of this 'it's an 80 year old
plane' Drivel. It's an 80 year old design, and indeed many structural
(as opposed to stressed) parts of these aircraft MAY have been on the
original airframe, but they will all have been subject to NDT and other procedures, and I'd hazard a guess that on any current flying WW2
warbird approaching 70% of the aircraft is either not the original
factory part or has been upgraded, modified or replaced.

I've got a 16 year old Fiat outside. If something fails and causes an
accident tomorrow it likely won't be because it's 16 years old and worn
out, because between the factory in Poland and today it's had new brakes including pads and disks, oil, filters coolant dozens of times, tyres,
in fact wheels, suspension, exhaust, belts, wiper blades etc etc.

Historic aircraft, certainly of the BBMF are the same but ten fold. It's
highly unlikely the engines, control surfaces, control cables, wiring
loom, leading edges, main spar, fuel tanks where applicable, seals,
wheels, tyres, pipes, radiators, coolers, hydraulics and much much more
are any more than a few hundred OPERATING hours old per component.

Dont believe the popular press hype. They have to print something, and
as they say, tomorrow it's chip papers.

Here's an example of an original 'old' ww2 aircraft in rebuild. It's
100% original except for the pieces in the two different shades of
green, and the dark grey metal. Oh and the bright alloy is new.
