  • Diagnosing if turn signal switch is bad

    When I use my left hand blinker, it "ticks" faster than the right side.

    All the blinker bulbs are working.

    Does that show that the turn signal switch needs replacing?

    Fast blink means excessive current draw. Could be a bad switch but:
    re-check ALL the bulbs very carefully when on left blink and see if the
    parking lights are also blinking dimly. Odds are there is an internally shorted bulb or corroded socket or bad ground that all current to find a
    ground through somewhere else, like the right side bulbs.

    No.

    If the right hand blinker rate is fine, you know the flasher is good.
    So you can expect that even though the bulbs all light up, one of them
    is not drawing enough current. Make sure all the connections are clean
    and tight because unless you put the wrong bulb in, this is most likely
    a bad connection.

    I cleaned all the blinker bulb contacts with rubbing alcohol.

    Problem went away. :-(
