    The Beeb is normally pretty reliable, and other reputable sources seem to confirm the speculation.

    Whilst Newey is undoubtedly one of the greatest F1 designers (probably
    *the* greatest) he is 65 years old and his ability and enthusiasm must
    surely be on the wane. Coupled with the fact that he is clearly
    uncomfortable with the political situation at RB I think that he might well take this opportunity to take a sabbatical, or even retire altogether, especially as his contractual situation could make going to another team a
    long and messy business.

    Nobody is indispensible (who now remembers the great design guru John
    Barnard?) and RB technical director Pierre Waché is highly competent.

    He is probably tired of everything. Retirement is very probable.
