I realise that the Dutch have quite liberal drug laws, but WTF were
those fans all on (apart from adrenaline) ?
Not sure what chemicals might be in their bloodstreams, but the Dutch
are surely not taking their hero's dominance for granted.
I have to hand it to them; there's no complacency among the Orange army.
I met some Dutch guys at a beer festival here a few months ago. A lovely
group, they taught me the word gezellig, which was very appropriate for
the vibe around the table.
2 days later, I'm in my local pub (OK, it's an ex-pat or tourist-centric
bar, but it has a big screen and always shows the F1 (run by an Aussie)),
and who should turn up but the Dutch group.
I jokingly quipped "I bet I can guess who you'll be cheering for", and
got an immediate "Oh? Who?". "Max, surely?" I responded, only to be met
with a "No, Nyck de Vries". Ooops. I was forgiven.
I'd rather have any number of Dutch F1 fans in the pub than any number
of Ferrari fans apart from zero. If the Dutch fans are Ferrari fans,
things get difficult, but that's not a quandry I've encountered yet.
