I saw that. It reminded me of the race in, I think, 1987 where a loose
tire hit Roberto Gurrero's car coming out of Turn 4 and was launched
into the stands not too far from where me and my friends were sitting.

I'll do everyone the courtesy of not describing the aftermath.

No less a driver than Nigel Mansell found oval racing to be a great
    challenge.

Yes, that was a scary moment. Glad it missed and hit a parked car instead.
They have tethers but the angle of that hit sheered it right off.

    #1. Yes indeed, very scary.

A couple of minutes later I was reminded of a day nearly 50 years
ago when I slammed on the brakes at turn #1 at Westwood, and
    one rear axle sheared,
I found that it was amazing, how many clear, lucid, separate
thoughts one could have in such a short time.
    What was that!!!
    Look at that wheel bounce.
I'm sure I properly tightened the lug nuts!
It's heading towards the woods rather than the grandstand.
I sure hope that big stock car I just passed is not too close.
My (sports racer's) doors are falling inward.
My (car's) whole nose is getting torn off.
Is there water down here and how deep is it?
Lots of dirt and dust here!
I wonder where Kendrick (my biggest competitor that year) is.

#2 OK,,, Kyle Kirkwood is an idiot.
When you are upside down sliding at over 100 MPH,
    DO NOT OPEN YOUR VISOR!!!!!

#3 And did you see that guy hit 4 wheels on the grass
at over 200 MPH ? Must'ta soiled some pants!!

He didn't open his visor, the impact and gravity did. When he realised it was open he closed it.

I have seen some debate in another forum as to whether or not he opened it
or if it fell open. I would have to watch it again as I don't remember. I
do remember that it looked like he was trying very hard to keep the helmet
snug on his head and prevent it from dragging the ground.

"That guy" was Tony Kanaan. I doubt it affected him like it might have
others. I will miss seeing him race. He was capable of making moves, and making them stick, that several others were not capable of.

I re-watched it to check and he didn't open it himself, it was the impact of landing upside-down.

I rewatched it and agree. The safety visor around the cockpit seemed to
    hold up well also.
