From Sir Tim@21:1/5 to All on Fri Mar 31 16:59:54 2023
Further to our discussion about the pool I see that quoted odds are:

    Max Verstappen -250
    Sergio Perez 4-1
    Fernando Alonso 8-1
    Charles Leclerc 20-1
    Lewis Hamilton 25-1
    George Russell 33-1
    Carlos Sainz 40-1
    Lance Stroll 100-1
    Pierre Gasly 400-1
    Esteban Ocon 400-1
    Nico Hulkenberg 1000-1
    Kevin Magnussen 1000-1
    Lando Norris 1000-1
    Oscar Piastri 1000-1
    Valtteri Bottas 1500-1
    Guanyu Zhou 1500-1
    Logan Sargeant 2000-1
    Nyck De Vries 2500-1

I take the -250 to mean that a stake of 250 wins 100

The last time I bet on a motor race was at Brands Hatch when Ladbroke had a tent there. I made a modest investment on Roger Williamson to win the F3
race. Roger duly obliged and my winnings
paid for beer for the rest of the weekend.

Given the recent results -- Russell vs Hamilton -- I find it somewhat
odd that the odds are indicating that Hamilton is given a better chance
    than Russell

Good for you and your bet.
Yeah,, I'm not seeing where anything in the current betting odds
    that tempts me.

You sent me on a trip of memory: Youtube of that race: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxnPsTdg9MU
Roger Williamson wins Formula 3 in Silverstone Circuit 1972
and that got me thinking of my old Elden, turns out it raced there 1973.

and other memories, took me to: https://www.eldenracing.com/history/the-cars/mk-9-formula-3/
    and
    https://www.eldenracing.com/history/the-cars/mk-12-formula-3/

Photos also remind me of another strong memory,
now I'm not large, but boy those English drivers around
1972 sure did have small feet!

Odds reflect the betting as much as the probability and are skewed by
    fan bets.

    Yes.
Some bet with their hearts, while
others bet their brains, odds and probabilities.

And sadly, once you go with odds, that Darth Vader
is most likely to win, you do start to have some
    wishes for that.

Yeah but then this year Hamilton has more points than Russell...

Thanks for that, a great reminder of how exciting F3 was at that time.

I see that Andy Sutcliffe drove an Elden. I well remember stopping in the middle of the night to help retrieve his trailer, complete with F3 car,
from a ditch somewhere in France on the way to Monaco. Sadly Andy died recently.

No so recently actually - 2015 (aged 68).
