6.30pm, Villeneuve Pironi - Racing's Untold Tragedy, Sky Documentaries. Events during the 1982 F1 season at Ferrari.
My understanding is that some things have never been resolved beyond dispute.
e.g. what exactly were the team orders in the San Marino GP?
And when Villeneuve fatefully came across Jochen Mass in qualifying at the Belgian GP was the Canadian racing back to the pits to quickly come out and have another go, or was he already on (another) qualifying lap when he encountered Mass?
(Mass was definitely on a qualifying lap and reached the apex of the bend first - as he had every right to do even though doing that blocked Villeneuve behind and in the quicker car. Events coming off the bend proved crucial of course. I think Villeneuve
should have aborted and slowed once he was blocked at the apex - he had already posted a fast time - but that sort of thing wasn't in his nature of course).
