    So what were your takeaways from the first practice and qualifying runs of 2023?


    The main one for me is if you were hoping for someone to knock RB off the top step it's going to be a long season.

    Mercs lack of pace was disappointing.

    Alpine being nowhere was the least surprising.

    Yeah,,,, when after Alonso pulled them up to
    4th best in WCC, then chose to leave his native
    Alpine team, to go over to the 7th team,,,
    I guess we should have figured he had seen important
    things.

    Amazing to me how competitive the WHOLE field is,
    in Q1, less than 1 second from 1st to 20th.
    That is really unusually tight.

    1.188 seconds. First to 17th was 0.899.

    That is really unusually tight.

    Bodes well for midfield battles and surprises.

    The slowest car in Q1 (Pierre Gasly) was less than a second
    slower than the eventual pole sitter Max Verstappen, but Leclere
    was faster that session.

    Yes, we agree, that bodes well for battles for the season.
