I have never been to an F1 race. I turned 70 this year and my wife and
kids planned to treat me to one but Covid kiboshed that. Hopefully, I
might be able to do that next year. What race would people recommend, preferably Europe as I'm not fussed on long flights?
Toying with the idea of a combined cruise and F1 as that would appeal
to my wife, lazing on a nice cruise ship whilst I take myself off for
a day to that noisy F1 thing :) That would restrict it to Barcelona or Monaco; would either of those be a good first (maybe only) F1
experience?

Not Monaco. Unless you are mega wealthy it's not at all enjoyable. The sort of people who go there are those who want to be able to say they have on farcebook. Barcelona is pretty good. Hungry is good. How would you travel? What class of hotel? Would
The best Grand Prix's overall would be 1). Canada. 2). Australia. 3). Back in the day when I was still making my fortune (pre-injury) I was planning on going to some races after I'd made it. However now, even if
I was offered everything free I don't think I'd bother. All of the loud
DJ and cheerleading shite going on all of the time would, for me at
least, destroy the whole experience. Watching extensive TV coverage
suits me better.
I guess I'm getting old. I don't like my racing combined with a
nightclub atmosphere. I also dislike shouty Croft and mute the volume
for the first lap or two and after re-starts until I know there's a good chance Brundle will be able to get a word in. I don't need a ex-radio announcer telling me what I can see very fast and loudly. I do however appreciate an ex-driver's insight. I wish there was an option to mute
Croft completely. Stating the obvious and cheesy puns interfere with my enjoyment.

I am moving house at the moment and am staying with my sister-in-law. She does not have Sky so I have been forced to watch the replays on Channel

I hate flat circuits, and I loathe flat circuits with vast runoff areas and no landmarks; you may as well watch video games. I trust that helps you narrow it down.

I think that most F1 fans, especially those who have been there, would say that if you could only go to one GP in your life then it should be Spa.
You have to take your chances with the weather though 😉.

Great for hardened fans, especially campers. When I go back it will be at a family type campground. I get a feeling Martin would be more comfortable at somewhere like Austin (COTA). hotel close by, comfortablr Grandstand, etc but a place closer to home,
I'm presuming Martin is in the UK, right ?
An out of the box answer might be Holland. Big variety of hotels, nice easy bus/train trip to circuit and good viewing (I'm told). But Hungrary (v.good racing, good viewing, great sightseeing), Baku are possibilities.
