And why didn't they discover the lack of supporting travel docs back
when he first made the statement? Did they not bother to vet his

On the contrary. The "laptop" hasn't been indexed and all evidence cited
was from cloud backups including backups of other devices. It's also not
clear Hunter was in control of those devices at all times.

Weiss does have a grand jury in California, so I don't know what you mean.

Weiss charged Smirnov when Hunter's lawyer asked for discovery, which
would have revealed the Barr/Brady evidential backdoor. Don't forget
Weiss is a witness in this and can't investigate himself.

In the end...all they had to do was verify the existence of lack of international trips.

On the contrary, Trump's DoJ guys kept the investigation going when the
FBI intended to drop it.

The Hunter plea was based on the FBI's intent to not pursue FARA
