A veteran FBI counterintelligence agent says his supervisor told him to
stop investigating Rudy Giuliani and to cut off contact with any
sources who reported on corruption by associates of former
President Donald Trump, according to a whistleblower complaint
obtained by Insider.
End quote.
Investigating Trump at the FBI: career suicide.
The whistleblower told Insider that he was finally ordered to stop investigating Giuliani and the rest of the Trump White House in
August 2022
GMAFB.....even the FBI couldn't justify continuing investigation of
Russia and Ukraine "connections".
Or Giuliani's buddies were looking out for him in general:
Insider: The agent's reporting on Giuliani wasn't received well in the
bureau's New York field office, his statement said. "In the midst of my reporting involving Giuliani, which had previously been identified by my supervisor as 'high impact,' my management told me they received a call
from a supervisor in NYFO, who they did not identify," the statement
says. "This supervisor had taken issue with my reporting."
The whistleblower said he didn't know who the upset supervisor was. But
he added: "The conduct of my supervisors and the timing of their actions
made plain that reporting concerning Giuliani and a group of people
surrounding him with existing or historical ties to the Bureau gave rise
to this retaliatory action." The statement points to Charles McGonigal,
the now-indicted former head of FBI counterintelligence in New York, as
one possible source of the apparent "suppressive efforts."

Wasn't McGonigal the guy whose Albanian free-lancing for Russian mobster Deripaska was too much even for the FBI?

After assuming his new job in October 2016, just a month before the
election, he would have been in a position to undermine the bureau’s investigation into Deripaska and Manafort and to sabotage those
investigations with disinformation. Similarly, he would have been in a
position to leak the information about Anthony Weiner’s laptop that led
to the reopening of the FBI probe into Hillary Clinton’s emails 11 days before the election. Finally, he was in a position to have been a source
behind the false exculpatory news published by The New York Times on
October 31, 2016, a week before the election, with the headline that
seemed give to Trump a clean bill of health: “Investigating Donald
Trump, F.B.I. Sees No Clear Link to Russia.”
End quote.
Just speculation, as is the list of well-known former FBI later on
Russian payrolls: William Sessions, Louis Freeh and the less-known late
James Kallstrom, a Giuliani associate and long-time Trump friend.
