I remember the Greenpeace furors over fishing nets, etc. Maybe blades are another story.

I heard one marine biologist equate it to having a very bright flashing light (of the type sold to disorient attackers) pinned to your eyeball so your eyes can't shut it out.
You'll be in extreme pain, disoriented, and possibly blind for days or weeks afterwards.
Whales have rushed to surface in an attempt to escape the noise so rapidly they can get the equivalent
of the bends.
Sonar surveys can take weeks of crisscrossing the ocean to create a topographic map of the ocean floor.
