WTF?
Even more amazing, when my staff spoke with the California
Attorney General’s office,
You don't have a staff.
But, seriously, why would the CA AG be consulted over a LA
County Sheriff warrant?
Because they took over the case last fall.

Thanks! That led me to this:

https://www.dailynews.com/2022/09/28/phillip-washington-and-the-case-of-peace-over-violence/
"At the request of L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva, the
investigation into the tip-off has been taken over by Attorney
General Rob Bonta. The AG has also taken over the underlying
investigation, which is centered on a series of questionable
contracts awarded by Metro, the county-wide transit agency, to a
nonprofit called Peace Over Violence."
Looks complicated. The Daily News writer compares the situation to
an Agatha Christie plot.
It's only complicated if you're an idiot.
The local journalist could well be an idiot.
They [sic] head of Peace Over Violence is "best friend" of the council
member who structured the contracts to just below the level requiring
full council approval. The other idiot was covering up the scheme
and insisting the crooked contracts be paid for favors of his own.
So many idiots, a complication worthy of Agatha Christie.

Last July WitnessLA reported on Villanueva’s pattern of launching
criminal investigations of those whom he sees as personal opponents, and
the chilling effect those actions— which, thus far, never seem to result
in actual charges—have had on any kind of oversight of the nation’s
largest sheriff’s department. [

Things got to the point, that in July 2021, Loyola law professor and
present COC Chair, Sean Kennedy, compiled a ten-page report on what
appears to be a deliberate pattern. [
https://witnessla.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/LASD-Investigations-of-Oversight-Officials-final.pdf]
The report describes how Sheriff Villanueva, with the help certain
members of his administration, continues to target oversight officials
and other “perceived political adversaries,” with what seem to be
specious criminal investigations that, thus far, never result in actual charges.
End quote.
No wonder the state AG wanted to take over.
But now it's state dems investigating LA dems and no one expects any
movement on the case. Villanueva warned of this as he was headed out
the door having lost the election after the dem machine and LATimes
all colluded to get him out. The new Sherriff is in the tank with the
corrupt council and the state AG isn't going to do shit about it. LA
is going down the tubes as these new council members act like kids in
a candy store.
"Colluded!" Maybe they all agreed he shouldn't be in office for actual
reasons.
"According to defense counsel, LASD officials have confirmed in writing
they don’t believe that Giggans committed any crime, but that letter has never been made public. Frank Stoltze, Sheriff to DA: Let’s Probe
Corruption Together. DA to Sheriff: No Thanks, LAist (Mar. 5, 2021).
LASD officials nevertheless continue to represent that there is a
criminal investigation pending; for example, on March 11, 2021, LASD
spokesman John Satterfield responded to an email from a third party
asking about funding for Peace Over Violence by stating, “We will not be renewing or renegotiating an MOU while we have an active criminal investigation.”
