He's trying to stay out of jail by attempting to make the laptop info inadmissible.
And any further evidence deriving from it, fruit of the poisoned tree.
All the communications on his business can be obtained by other means than the laptop if a real investigation takes place.
And the most damning evidence is the money trail which they already have via suspicious transfer notifications.
I don't think Hunter has a real worry about going to jail, he'd already be in it if the FBI/DoJ was willing to enforce the laws.
He's a pawn in the "Don't Run Joe" plan.
Even if the house investigates and finds really damning evidence (and I kind of doubt there could be anything the FBI isn't aware of)
they can only issue a criminal referral which are a dime a dozen. At worst he'll be cloaked by an "ongoing investigation".
