It's absolutely incredible that the freighter was able to spot him...and in the dark no less. That's just a million billion to one.
And the amount of time he was able to stay afloat is also incredible.
No way he would survive to see the light of day again if they hadn't spotted him and provided the Coast Guard an accurate location.
