I wonder how long Honey G is going to keep edging out talented singers
in this year's X-Factor UK? The show is really jumping the shark. I
know that's been said before in past seasons, but it's never been
truer than now IMO. The judges are not helping matters by heaping
praise on her. Maybe the producers equate controversy with viewership
and ratings? IDK. But it's ridiculous. IMO of course. If Honey G
were a truly talented rap artist I could almost understand it
(although X-Factor has always been a singing competition). But she's
not. She would not last 5 minutes in an actual rap artist
competition; she's like a bad parody of a rapper.
SMH.
I can only assume the public keep voting for her...had she been in the
bottom 2 and they voted to keep her in, that would be the fault of the
judges. But she hasn't. The novelty acts usually do stay in until
about half way, but then they also usually display some sort of real
talent and I agree with you over Honey G.
What I would have liked to see Saturday was a real diva song from her.
She could rap it - that would "make it her own" and show something more
than we have seen. Instead we get a Vanilla Ice number - since when has Vanilla Ice been a diva? - which I read, the estate of David Bowie said
must not be altered, so at least we got no "I say Honey" stuck in there.
We just got karaoke.
But I think being a parody of a rapper is the point.
BTW, on a completely different subject... Scherzy showed them how it
is DONE at the beginning of Sunday's results show! I've been a fan of
hers for a long time; Nicole is a fantastically talented singer with
an incredible vocal range and control -- across a broad range of music genres. Her "mike drop" was funny after she sang, but it was apt!
She was really good, enjoyed that. Of course years of experience helps
the performance aspect, but she has the voice to go with it.
