• Sue's May 2022 Hilton Head Trip - Day 3 of 6

From Sue/WDW1972@21:1/5 to All on Fri May 6 14:51:05 2022
    DAY 3 – Friday 5/6/22
    Who: Sue (63), DVC Member
    SB (64), my husband

Plan: Beach, Frankie Bones, Comedy Magic Cabaret

Actual: I slept well again last night, having turned off the light & TV by 10. SB had fallen asleep closer to 9, and although I woke up around 3:30 I didn’t get up until 5 (he was already up at that point). I made my cappuccino and we each lounged
around doing our online stuff for a couple hours before I went out to the kitchen to make breakfast. It’s going to be another hot day (90’s) so it’s best to get to the beach early. This evening a cold front (with thunderstorms) is due to pass
through, which will bring our weather back to normal (thank goodness)!

Breakfast was basically the same as yesterday, although SB wasn’t hungry enough to finish his. I’d already fixed mine at that point, so his leftovers went into the trash since there’s no garbage disposal in this villa. After getting dressed in a
swimsuit/coverup I sat out on the porch with my table until it was time to leave for the beach at 8:30.

Once again we were among the first few people to arrive, and set up our chairs in roughly the same spot as yesterday. Although it’s supposed to be hot today there’s a pretty strong breeze blowing and it was enough to keep us from getting sweaty. It
felt great! SB took his chair down to the water for a while, I did some reading, he did some dozing, and we watched lots of dogs playing with frisbees or balls as they’d pass by. It really was a perfect beach morning, except for the wind blowing sand
into my beach bag and onto our stuff. The bag is mesh, so the wind blew it right through the sides. Thank goodness I’d put the cell phones in a zip lock bag so no worries about sand getting inside them.

We left a little bit after noon and drove back to the resort. A thin layer of clouds had crept in, and they’re still saying we can expect thunderstorms around 6. Back in the villa SB took his shower first while I put things away and ate the last 2
pieces of naan bread w/pimento cheese. There’s still some cheese left, so I’ll probably eat that with crackers at some point.

SB decided he preferred to lounge around watching tv except for going out for lunch and the comedy show. That’s fine with me – I can wander around & check out the gourmet store across the marina to look for a wine glass Holli wants. I sat on the
porch for a short time, then came in and updated the report before getting in the shower.

We drove over to Frankie Bones, arriving just after 2. It seems like whenever I come here there’s some delay for the hostess. Today was no different, with a person getting their “to go” order, another party waiting to be seated, and a phone
ringing the hostess “had to” answer. We tired of waiting and just walked into the bar area and took one of the high top tables. This is a pretty bar, and I love granite on the high tops and the bar.

The bartender was over right away to take our drink orders – glass of wine for me, seven & seven for SB. He said it’s the best seven & seven either – not sure why. We ordered food, including a small Caesar salad to start for SB. After that was
gone we were sitting there talking and my nearly full glass of pinot grigio got knocked over, falling in my direction and drenching me with the wine! It also broke the glass. The bartender cleaned it up and I used another napkin to try to sop some of
the liquid out of my clothes. She also brought me another glass of wine. We joked that maybe it should be in a kiddie or other plastic cup but she laughed and said she had confidence in me, lol.

For food I went with the meatball sliders, which are excellent. It comes with 3, so SB ate the 3rd one. He got the spaghetti & huge meatballs, which he usually gets – he loves it here. He took some of his back to the villa, as it was really too much
for lunch. When we got back to the villa I walked over to Shelter Cove and bought a stemless wine glass etched with a map of the island. Holli had wanted to buy it last trip (January) but the shop was closed for the first half of January and wouldn’t
reopen until the day we left. She’s feeding our feral cats while we’re away so this will be a nice thank you gift.

I continued walking to the end down by Ela’s then turned around and headed back. Before leaving I stopped in the French bakery and picked up a carrot cake dessert for SB and an almondine tart for me. The stuff in here is so pretty, but it’s also
pricy. They do give a discount to people staying at the Disney resort, so I think the 2 items cost just under $15. Hopefully they’ll be good – doubt we’ll try them until tomorrow. Back in the villa I saw housekeeping had just come to get the
trash. I put a load of laundry in and went to the bedroom to update the report. We have another few hours before we need to leave for the comedy show.

The owner (Kelly) had texted me earlier with details on when to arrive and suggested bringing a sweater since it’s sometimes cool in there. We’ll both wear long pants and shirts with some sleeves. I poured a glass of wine, added ice cubes, grabbed
my tablet and spent quite a bit of time out on the porch. I used one picnic table bench as an ottoman, another as a side table for my wine & phone, and I sat in one of the rocking chairs. It was very peaceful out there, although it was somewhat windy
and humid. Occasionally I would hear thunder, so the cold front is getting closer.

Around 5:30 I came back inside and relaxed online until it was time to get ready to leave. SB had spent part of the time betting on horse racing and ended up turning $25 into $125 by the time he finished. He was starting to lose at that point so he
quit betting but continued watching. I imagine he’ll do more of this tomorrow since it’s Kentucky Derby day.

The Comedy Magic Cabaret doors open at 7:15 and the show starts at 8. The previous times I’ve been there, the show lasts a good 2 hours or a little more. They also have a food & drink menu – sandwiches, snacks, desserts mainly. Since we’ll be
getting home fairly late I’ll include this evening in tomorrow’s report rather than be up late working on it tonight.

Today was another great day – perfect beach day, and very relaxing overall. Lunch at Frankie Bones was delicious as usual. Thanks to having a washer & dryer here in the villa my clothes no longer stink of pinot grigio!

Tomorrow we’ll head back to the beach for the morning and will probably eat at Nectar. SB’s never been there (well, he has when it used to be Marley’s & has the shirt to prove it, lol) but I think he’ll like it. Since I know he’ll want to
watch the Kentucky Derby he can eat his leftover spaghetti when he gets hungry again.
