Looks like there's going to be an interesting summer season this year.
To be honest, I prefer shows, which I know, that they are creative
from my point of view.
I've personally not watched Spriggan or Overlord but otherwise, I'm
excited about the rest. In particular, I haven't seen more anime
content from Aria or Utawarerumono in a long time and I've always
wanted more from both series!
For example, the Mushoku Tensei OVA met my expectations. I am reading
the light novel of it. Nevertheless, the ova was fun for me.
Btw, I like shows that are creative and process realistic behaviors
that are made without psychological construction that follow what is published in scientific textbooks but solely through experience.
With the scientific textbooks as the construction basis of characters
in TV series is afaik a typical problem of western TV series. It's
funny when I read something in a psychological book about typical
aggressive people's thinking and then watch a TV series in which the
main characters follow exactly this pattern. And not just in this
series.
I think (but am not sure) that you're talking about the tendency for
Western shows to go into Talking Heads mode, where the characters
generally exist to further the plot rather than develop as characters
with their own motivations, aka "talking heads". If this is what
you're talking about, anime has a lot of shows that suffer this same shortcoming. A show I really enjoyed, Shin-Sekai Yori, is an example
of a show that flirts with "talking head" problems.
That said there are definitely Western TV shows that are character
driven, like Breaking Bad or its successor Better Call Saul.
