Wednesday, April 18, 2018 marked the passing of a legend. One of the
most influential pro wrestlers of all time and longest-running WWE
champion Bruno Sammartino died at age 82 (

) . Before WrestleMania, before the national expansion of the WWF, Bruno
was the flagship wrestler for that company.
It just so happens that the same day as Sammartino's passing, I was
reading the original Tiger Mask manga, and who would show up in Volume 6
but the Italian Strongman himself.

Some trivia.
The author of Tiger Mask, Kajiwara wrote virtually nothing but sports manga and had great successes.
He was once married to a famous Taiwanese talent. Their daughter was kidnapped and the kidnappers demanded $5M (yes, in dollar). Although mom
paid the ransom, they killed the daughter anyway. Kajiwara was already divorced from the woman and deceased when this happened.

Chiba Testuka is famous for his sports manga. Kajiwara collaborated with
him on Ashita No Joe early in Chiba's career but Chiba wrote and drew most
of his manga since then.
There also are manga artists that specializes in just one sports, and
baseball in particular. I suppose Kinnikuman is loosely based on
professional wrestling as well.
