I found first eighteen volumes at San Francisco's Western Addition
Library and gone though the whole thing over the weekend.
In translation or in Japanese or ?
--------------------------------
The copies I checked out were in Japanese.
A quick check of SFPL.org indicates that they have 12 copies of Volume 18 in English so every branch must have at least one copy.
They also have the parody Attack on Titan Junior High although since school system is so different in Japan, it'd be more foreign to Americans than the main title.
The artwork is just awful and not up to manga standard but this series
is quite popular because of its strange premise.
I find the premise too strange to be attractive.
-------------------------
I am sure some are turned off by the graphic violence depicted in many
manga. However, you can explore all American medias (books, movies, TV,
...) and won't come across anything this outlandish. You don't have to read
it if this is not your cup of tea.
Humanity is nearly wiped out by giants that ate them. The only recourse
was to build a huge wall to isolate themselves from the giants. They
learned that giants can be killed by cutting out the base of the neck
but otherwise they can regenerate themselves.
The story starts with a boy who discovers that he can transform into a
giant (almost) at will. In the recent issues, they encountered other
humans that could do the same and that all survivors' memories have been wiped so they have no recollection of what happened before the wall was built. It attempts to go into political conspiracy in addition to
fighting giants.
I really have troubles remembering characters' names as they are quite strange. To make things worse, sometimes they are referred by their
first names and other time by their last names. I also have troubles
telling the characters apart due to sloppiness in the artwork.
I hate not being able to tell characters apart.
----------------------------
Inking appears to be the main issue as the author tends to go over the same line more than once and muddying things up when he should use thicker lines
for foreground.
There's also a parody title where the characters are living in normal
Japan, but with the giants.

Doing a parody of another title seems to be very common in manga these
days. I have seen similar title for Fist of North Star where Kenshiro
and his brothers are living in a apartment and struggle to find
employment as their awesome kung fu skills are utterly useless in a
civilized society.
Well aside from the premise and taking your remarks into
account maybe a parody is the best thing to do with this manga.
Kenshiro and company need to become martial arts instructors.
