Shirley Mae Neitzel, 81, peacefully passed away on February 21, 2023, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was born May 15, 1941, in Ewen, Michigan to Theophilus and Ida Koehler. Shirley was graduated from Ewen High School, earned her teaching degree from
Eastern Michigan University, and went on to enjoy a 30+ year career teaching in the Caledonia school system. Shirley was a passionate, gifted writer who authored 13 beloved children's books. Her favorite was "The Jacket I Wear in the Snow". She
selflessly served her community through numerous organizations including Peninsula Writers, Ypsilanti Jaycees, and Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Her favorite being the Diaper Depot, a ministry which she helped found...
