• Doctor Who S2/S15 - Ep. 6: The Interstellar Song Contest

I haven't watched many Eurovision Song Contests live in recent
years, but we did always find the scoring the most entertaining
part when we did... so for "The Interstellar Song Contest" to
miss out that part of the merriment was unforgivable! However,
we did get OTT, fun, weird, camp, as well as a twist at the end,
to make this a decent parody of the real thing. In fact it was a
lot shorter and a probably a lot more entertaining than the real
    thing too.

As a story "The Interstellar Song Contest" was actually quite
good and very enjoyable, but of course the episode got kind of
de-railed half way through when we got the Susan cameo... not
Susan Twist, but Susan Campbell (née Foreman). Heavily rumoured
in the usual online fan forums of course, but now fully
confirmed on screen. Wow! Carole Ann Forde is back, at 84 years
of age. Having her character call Ncuti's Doctor "Grandfather"
was a bit weird though. At least William Hartnell looked the
    part!

As for the ending; flood -> rain -> Rani, was always a good guess
from the start. The only issue was whether it was too 'on the
nose' and one of RTD's red herrings, but no, it was indeed
exactly what it said on the tin and it was another reveal this
season that had also been heavily speculated on within fandom.
Clearly there is a leak somewhere within the BBC (!)

I'm not sure about the two Rani's thing, or Mrs Flood now
becoming an underling either. I was also hoping that
bi-generation was just a once-off in the show too... but RTD
likes to hammer down on his ideas so we've now seen
bi-generation twice in a few years, after never hearing of it
for sixty years! No doubt it will rear its head(s) once again in
the future now that it has become a 'thing'. For me it was silly
fun once, but a stupid gimmick twice.

There's only two episodes left of the season now, so now that
the unsurprising surprises have been revealed, what is RTD going
to throw at us in those two episodes? It's going to have to be
something BIG for a season finale... but will RTD get the
landing right or will it be a damp squib? One thing is for sure,
with RTD's subtle use of the word "mavity" in this episode,
'that' is definitely going to play a part!

Stay tuned folks. The end is near... but the moment has been
    prepared for.

Good point. The entire story should have been about the voting being
totally racist, not about generating sympathy for a terrorist act which
was written as a parallel to the October 7 attacks against innocent
civilians going to a non-content in Israel including the performed of
    this year's Israeli Eurovision entry.

That is simply not true. 6.7 million people on average watched the
Eurovision Final on BBC1 peaking at 7.9 million during the UK entry,
compared to 2.57 million that watched Doctor Whoke and about 5 million
that watched the FA Cup Final (on the BBC and ITV combined I think).

Everyone figured it Mr Flood was going to be the Rani from when she
first appeared in Gatwa's first Christmas special and knew what a TARDIS
    was.

I'm not sure about the two Rani's thing, or Mrs Flood now
becoming an underling either. I was also hoping that

the future now that it has become a 'thing'. For me it was silly
fun once, but a stupid gimmick twice.

The use of bi-generation once again simply shows that this series is not
Doctor Who and never will be accepted as such. It's a complete woke joke
along with the Timeless Child monster that has replaced the Doctor as
the main protagonist. We say evidence of that when Gatwa showed that he
was made of pure evil having to be stopped from torturing and murdering
the male terrorist instead of handing him over to justice. That's the
message of wokery. The woke don't believe in the law. The woke think
they are the law. The woke are complete imbeciles. Even Plato over 2400
years ago explicitly states that everyone must obey the law even if they
think it is unjust. The woke don't underhand that because they're self
centred tyrants just like the people Plato and ideology Plato dismantled
    in Gorgias and The Republic.

    Doctor Who ended in 2017.

There's only two episodes left of the season now, so now that

Two more chances for Gatwa to hold the record for the top 10 lowest
rating episodes of all time by pushing Jodie Whittaker out of the chart.

the unsurprising surprises have been revealed, what is RTD going
to throw at us in those two episodes? It's going to have to be

Pure shit just like he did with last season's finale.

Me too. Before I stopped watching it altogether I used to skip the songs
and just start watching when I guessed that the scoring was about to
start. Even way back 50 years ago, most of the songs were so dire that I
can still remembered what a shock it was when the then unknown ABBA
performed "Waterloo" and I thought "Wow, this is really good!"

so for "The Interstellar Song Contest" to
miss out that part of the merriment was unforgivable! However,
we did get OTT, fun, weird, camp, as well as a twist at the end,
to make this a decent parody of the real thing. In fact it was a

    Yep.

As a story "The Interstellar Song Contest" was actually quite
good and very enjoyable, but of course the episode got kind of

    part!

Though at 84 Carol Ann Ford still looks a lot younger than William
    Hartnell did in his 60s.

I'm not sure about the two Rani's thing, or Mrs Flood now

fun once, but a stupid gimmick twice.

Not so bad as "mavity" being used again, though.

I now have a variant of a famous Who (as in the rock group, not as in
DW) song playing in my head: "Talking about bi-generation".

I assume we're going to get a two-parter dealing with how the Doctor
prevents the end of the world, which from the date for it that was given
within the episode would appear to be scheduled for this weekend. I also
assume that it's the Rani who is trying to bring about Earth's
destruction, though what her motivation for that could be is hard to
    see.

Stay tuned folks. The end is near... but the moment has been

That is simply not true. 6.7 million people on average watched
the Eurovision Final on BBC1 peaking at 7.9 million during the
UK entry, compared to 2.57 million that watched Doctor Whoke
and about 5 million that watched the FA Cup Final (on the BBC

Although I know of Eurovision...and know that Austria won it this year,
I've never seen one, and I don't know enough about it to compare
Interstellar to it.  So there were probably many subtle references that
I missed; I'm sure Graham Norton was one of them.

Graham Norton has been the UK's Eurovision commentator ever since Terry
Wogan quit after the farcical result of 2008 where he stated that
Kalomira should have won it for Greece with Secret Combination which
came 3rd instead of the rubbish that did actually win it due to
    political voting.

Instead of representing Eurovision in that manner, showing the lifeforms
voting for their friends and neighbours instead of the actual songs, and
one planet recruiting singers from a different planet to sing their song
in order to get more votes (Kalomira is Georgian) the imbecilic and
illiterate DEI hire they recruited to write the episode decided to make
it into a story justifying terrorism to children by basing it on Hamas attacking innocent civilians attending an Israeli pop-concert, and
attempting to justify that by saying Israel deserved it because of its destruction of Palestine. Fucking moron!

At least William Hartnell looked the
    part!

I thought it was OK, if I was able to pick up on more of the Eurovision
stuff I might have a better opinion (or not).

There was very little Eurovision stuff in it at all. It was an attempt
by a woke pervert to justify the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel and
the Manchester Arena bombing. What do you think all of the spectators
being sucked out of the arena was all about?

What they should have done was to represent the aliens all wearing
costumes similar to the national costumes of the European country that
take part in the Eurovision, but there was nothing European in character
about it at all. There should have been performers wearing lederhosen to represent Austria and Germany, performers wearing horned Viking helmets
to represent the Scandinavian and Nordic block who all cross vote for
each other, performers in sombreros and dancing Flamenco to represent
Spain, performers in fustanellas to represent Greece, and singers eating Spaghetti to represent Italy which is exactly what happened in this
year's competition where two of the songs parodied Italian culture to
the disdain of the Italians themselves. Instead the woke moron decided
to turn it into a gay fest.

There was no need to have any terrorists in it at all. Instead if the degenerate, perverted, mentally ill woke writer had any clue about the
history of Eurovision which they obviously didn't they could have
paralleled the using of the start of the performance of the Portuguese Eurovision entry as a signal to start the Carnation Revolution in
Portugal in 1974. They could have also merged it with Spanish dictator
General Franco rigging the result of the contest by bribing officials.
That would have made for a much better story that was actually connected
to the Eurovision Song Contest and it would have encouraged viewers to
learn the real history it was based on rather than encouraging children
    to engage in homosexual acts.

Same here.  The first time it was used, I thought that the writers (read RTD) got "stuck", and used it as a cheap way to get un-stuck.  This time....nope....this is just lazy writing rearing its ugly head again.

There's only two episodes left of the season now, so now that
the unsurprising surprises have been revealed, what is RTD going
to throw at us in those two episodes? It's going to have to be
something BIG for a season finale... but will RTD get the
landing right or will it be a damp squib?

If RTD stays true to form, it will be like last season's finale: part 1
is pretty good...but part 2 shits the bed.

Doctor Whoke has been shitting the bed for the past 8 years.

miss out that part of the merriment was unforgivable! However,
we did get OTT, fun, weird, camp, as well as a twist at the end,
to make this a decent parody of the real thing. In fact it was a
lot shorter and a probably a lot more entertaining than the real
    thing too.

Instead of representing Eurovision in that manner, showing the lifeforms >voting for their friends and neighbours instead of the actual songs, and
one planet recruiting singers from a different planet to sing their song
in order to get more votes (Kalomira is Georgian) the imbecilic and >illiterate DEI hire they recruited to write the episode decided to make
it into a story justifying terrorism to children by basing it on Hamas >attacking innocent civilians attending an Israeli pop-concert, and
attempting to justify that by saying Israel deserved it because of its >destruction of Palestine. moron!

    Norton! Ugh!!

At least William Hartnell looked the

What they should have done was to represent the aliens all wearing
costumes similar to the national costumes of the European country that
take part in the Eurovision, but there was nothing European in character >about it at all. There should have been performers wearing lederhosen to >represent Austria and Germany, performers wearing horned Viking helmets
to represent the Scandinavian and Nordic block who all cross vote for
each other, performers in sombreros and dancing Flamenco to represent
Spain, performers in fustanellas to represent Greece, and singers eating >Spaghetti to represent Italy which is exactly what happened in this
year's competition where two of the songs parodied Italian culture to
the disdain of the Italians themselves. Instead the woke moron decided
to turn it into a gay fest.

There was no need to have any terrorists in it at all. Instead if the >degenerate, perverted, mentally ill woke writer had any clue about the >history of Eurovision which they obviously didn't they could have
paralleled the using of the start of the performance of the Portuguese >Eurovision entry as a signal to start the Carnation Revolution in
Portugal in 1974. They could have also merged it with Spanish dictator >General Franco rigging the result of the contest by bribing officials.
That would have made for a much better story that was actually connected
to the Eurovision Song Contest and it would have encouraged viewers to
learn the real history it was based on rather than encouraging children
    to engage in homosexual acts.

Same here.  The first time it was used, I thought that the writers (read
RTD) got "stuck", and used it as a cheap way to get un-stuck.  This
time....nope....this is just lazy writing rearing its ugly head again.

There's only two episodes left of the season now, so now that
the unsurprising surprises have been revealed, what is RTD going
to throw at us in those two episodes? It's going to have to be
something BIG for a season finale... but will RTD get the
landing right or will it be a damp squib?

If RTD stays true to form, it will be like last season's finale: part 1
is pretty good...but part 2 s*s the bed.

Doctor Whoke has been s*ing the bed for the past 8 years.

    Since Twice Upon a Time.

of the songs were so dire that I can still remembered what a
shock it was when the then unknown ABBA performed "Waterloo"
and I thought "Wow, this is really good!"

I vaguely remember Waterloo, only because ABBA became so big...
but I do remember Johnny Logan (twice) and our other winners...

Not so bad as "mavity" being used again, though.

Definitely a sign that we are in a alternate universe...

I now have a variant of a famous Who (as in the rock group,
not as in DW) song playing in my head: "Talking about
    bi-generation".

    It fits! :-)

is for sure, with RTD's subtle use of the word "mavity" in

I assume we're going to get a two-parter dealing with how the
Doctor prevents the end of the world, which from the date for
it that was given within the episode would appear to be
scheduled for this weekend. I also assume that it's the Rani
who is trying to bring about Earth's destruction, though what
her motivation for that could be is hard to see.

The end of the world and how the Doctor gets back to the real
universe...a universe where gravity exists once again.

Expect some subtly from RTD with THAT one!!!

The Mavity of the situation is interesting.

That is simply not true. 6.7 million people on average watched
the Eurovision Final on BBC1 peaking at 7.9 million during the
UK entry, compared to 2.57 million that watched Doctor Whoke
and about 5 million that watched the FA Cup Final (on the BBC
    and ITV combined I think).

Just because they watched, doesn't mean they found it
entertaining... people stop and stare at car crashes.

They must have found it entertaining because it started at 8pm and it
didn't end until long after midnight and still averaged 6.7 million
compared to virtually no one watching the competition on ITV who had to
move BGT to Sunday. People aren't going to keep watching for over 4
hours half of which was a the scoring unless they were entertained.

You also make a habit of watching Doctor Who every week and say
it's garbage (backed up by your usual minus something rating) so

    Doctor Who ended in 2017.

clearly by your own standards viewing doesn't equal
entertainment! Or are you going to shift the goal posts on that
    one as well?

You are the one shifting the goalposts and you don't have the faintest
    clue how to understand statistics.

As for the ending; flood -> rain -> Rani, was always a good
guess from the start. The only issue was whether it was
too 'on the nose' and one of RTD's red herrings, but no,
it was indeed exactly what it said on the tin and it was
another reveal this season that had also been heavily
    speculated on within fandom.

Everyone figured it Mr Flood was going to be the Rani from
when she first appeared in Gatwa's first Christmas special and
    knew what a TARDIS was.

    Everyone apart from you obviously.

I stated she was the Rani at the time of the episode.

It wasn't that long ago you were saying that Belinda was the
Rani because of Queen in Indian or something...

She still could be. The Rani can regenerate.

I'm sure I could find the post(s) if I could be bothered. ;-)

I am now thinking that the Indian Rani is going to be Belinda's mum. Why
haven't we ever seen her even in flashback?

OR looks like her. And being the Doctor's date ...

Gatwa wants her to whistle up his arse and he will start singing.

Urm yes it did. It made terrorism into a choice between two evils, that
of the terrorists, and that of the Corporation. The ending which
featured the performance of a political song against the Corporation by
a same species friend of the terrorists signalled that the audience
should choose terrorism as being the lesser of the two evils, capitalism
being the biggest evil of all.

And decent writer with a moral compass would have made the terrorists
pure evil, with their cause indicated to be completely unjustified and deserving of no sympathy whatsoever.

However, we did get OTT, fun, weird, camp, as well as a
twist at the end, to make this a decent parody of the real
thing. In fact it was a lot shorter and a probably a lot
more entertaining than the real thing too.

Why >>> haven't we ever seen her even in flashback?

OR looks like her. And being the Doctor's date ...

Gatwa wants her to whistle up his arse and he will start singing.

    Singing.

Wouldn't it be funny if Jo Martin's Doctor turned out to be

It would be an improvement to her being the Timeless Child

Your best mate wouldn't approve of THAT!!!

I think it would actually be quite interesting though...

Urm yes it did. It made terrorism into a choice between two evils, that
of the terrorists, and that of the Corporation. The ending which
featured the performance of a political song against the Corporation by
a same species friend of the terrorists signalled that the audience
should choose terrorism as being the lesser of the two evils, capitalism >being the biggest evil of all.

And decent writer with a moral compass would have made the terrorists
pure evil, with their cause indicated to be completely unjustified and >deserving of no sympathy whatsoever.

The Rani? But she would recognize the blue box!

I haven't watched many Eurovision Song Contests live in recent
years, but we did always find the scoring the most entertaining
part when we did... so for "The Interstellar Song Contest" to
miss out that part of the merriment was unforgivable!

    What happens during the scoring?

I hope it's not some dreadful dragged out boring procedure. If yes, then
    that's good to leave out!

Wow! Carole Ann Forde is back, at 84 years of age. Having her
character call Ncuti's Doctor "Grandfather" was a bit weird though.
At least William Hartnell looked the part!

Nah, not weird at all. :)

I'm not sure about the two Rani's thing, or Mrs Flood now
    becoming an underling either.

Yeah, that was weird. I'd expect her to smack the younger looking one
and tell her to take her place.

I was also hoping that bi-generation was just a once-off in the
show too... but RTD likes to hammer down on his ideas so we've now
seen bi-generation twice in a few years, after never hearing of it
for sixty years! No doubt it will rear its head(s) once again in
the future now that it has become a 'thing'. For me it was silly
fun once, but a stupid gimmick twice.

I don't mind it. Maybe if it had kept the 11th Doctor around in the
background, I'd reject the whole idea, but it keeps 10/14 around
    forever, yay!

Also, maybe they can finally come up with an explanation where the lady Doctor's Master came from - some bi-generation ages ago. (I recall
asking where he came from here some time ago, I don't remember a
    satisfactory explanation.)

There's only two episodes left of the season now, so now that
the unsurprising surprises have been revealed, what is RTD going
to throw at us in those two episodes?

Going to watch the next one right away! Hah, maybe it's a good thing
that I didn't feel like watching this one last week.

One thing is for sure, with RTD's subtle use of the word "mavity" in
this episode, 'that' is definitely going to play a part!

I think you should have typed "subtle". ;P

The scoring can be very entertaining... lots of votes handed out
for a variety of reasons, many of them completely unconnected to
    the quality of the song.

I mean, you don't think Ukraine just happened to have the best
song the same year that they was invaded by Russia, do you? ;-)
