Seems to be a mis-interpretation going around various social medias.
The patent for DVD-video actually expired last year. And the DVD Forum
has placed the Red Book of specifications in the Japanese National
library (it was previously secret men's business only given to
companies signing an NDA). So DVD is sort of open-source now. Though streaming has killed it off, and doubtful it will be profitable even
without royalties.

Yep, it's just more nonsense misinformation masquerading as
"news". :-(
There are still lots of DVDs, Blu-rays, and 4K/UHD discs still
being released and purchased. Doctor Who is no different -
depending on where you live, there are at least four DVDs and
three Blu-ray release planned for 2025/2026 (https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_future_releases),
and that doesn't include the Season Collection sets
(Jon Pertwee's 'Season 7' Blu-ray is due for release this
month).

EzyDVD in Australia has lists for "New Releases" (50 DVD and 49
Blu-ray) and "Coming Soon" (119 DVD, 87 Blu-ray).
Despite the doomsayer fools liek to continually say, disc formats
aren't going away any time soon. They said the same for vinyl releases,
yet those never fully disappeared either and are making a steady
come-back. Printed newspapers and magazines were said to be ending
decades ago, yet are still around. Cassette tapes are also slowly
making somewhat of a come-back. Even ye olde VHS tape releases show up >("Alien: Romulus" was due to have a limited edition VHS release on
December 3, 2024, but I'm not interested enough to check to see if it
did happen).

YouTube comes under Social Media - people posting boring crap that no
sane person ever wants to read / watch.
The only thing I use it for is things like TV / movie trailers, and
even then it's only because the proper websites have stored the video
on YouTube and embeded it in their own web page.

Some people see YouTube as the fount of all knowledge and
everything published there is as good as the word of the Lord.
If it's on YouTube it must be true.
You wouldn't believe a scruffy old man at a bus stop if he told
you something that was just a random rumour he'd heard in the
chip shop, but put a mask on, some flashy graphics, a bit of
music and talk absolute bollocks on YouTube and people will hang

LG and Samsung did drop out of the Blu-Ray market, but Panasonic
and Sony are still making Blu-Ray players. (Sony are not
producing the actual discs any more though.) Panasonic have a
new model out this year so if somebody bought that Blu-Ray
player in 2025 they'd be good to go for a good few years yet...
No wonder everyone is buying Vinyl. Anyone can make their
own gramophone player using only simple tools.
I never got rid of my LP's and singles, I kept meaning to do
something with them but I was too lazy... and then records
came back in to fashion! However, you'd need a bank loan to
buy most modern releases as the record companies are price
gouging vinyl due to it being fashionable. The same with
modern turntables,
£30 or more for a single album. Ridiculous!
And guess what's used to master them? CDs!
Yes, most of the time digital masters are used for vinyl records
these days. Some recent vinyl releases have been made from
analogue masters though. For instance, Elton John and Taylor
Swift have both returned to recording their music on to analogue
tape.
they are way over-priced... so people should make their own,
or just recondition an old one even.
Same with cassette decks. Over £400 for a basic cassette
player which doesn't even let you record in Dolby B, C, or S,
and doesn't even record on Metal tape, maybe not even Chrome.
And then there's VHS. The BBC have still not replaced all of
my Doctor Who VHS tapes which I paid good money for the right
to watch them.
Hang on for a few years and maybe VHS will return?! ;-)

Some people see YouTube as the fount of all knowledge and
everything published there is as good as the word of the
Lord. If it's on YouTube it must be true.
You wouldn't believe a scruffy old man at a bus stop if he
told you something that was just a random rumour he'd heard
in the chip shop, but put a mask on, some flashy graphics, a
bit of music and talk absolute bollocks on YouTube and
people will hang on to your every word like you are the
Messiah!
Flames are back.

That's not a flame, it's just an opinion.
If you wouldn't believe a man in the street that tells you
random stuff with no reference to his source, why would you
believe a stranger in a video doing the exact same thing?
Especially where the ultimate aim is to make $ from their
videos. (aka content.)

Wait until someone thinks otherwise.

And? I'm not a weak snowflake. I can handle people having
different opinions. It's not a big deal.
I prefer discussions and debate as opposed to random
gobbledygook.
